Who: Barbara, Kate, and Steph
What: The side effects of not too clean monsters
Where: Barbara's Safehouse in Brock Marsh
When: Late Coardi morning

She's not well.

It's not something Kate likes to admit, but laid up in this bed, waiting for her fever to finally break is as painful as her arm. At least the feeling's returning to it, but she's unsure whether the fact that the numbness that used to be there was better compared to the shooting pains all up and down her arm. From shoulder to fingertip, muscles burn and Kate can feel the every movement pull at the barely healed edges of the claw wound. Even when Kate barely shifts between the clean sheets, the injury reminds her that it's there, ruining her life. Being out there on the streets would be a lot more satisfying than staring at the ceiling all day and she would kill a monster in exchange for a hot shower.

She's also curious.

As soon as she's alone from whatever person has been sent to check on her, Kate sits up against the headboard and picks at the tape holding the gauze secure, wanting to see how bad things look under there. She should be afraid that it'll leave a nasty scar, but a scar is the least of her worries. Mostly, Kate's worried that it'll ruin her flexibility. Another scar is just that--another scar. It comes with the business.

Who: Kate and Jason
What: a talk about morals, or possibly the lack thereof
Where: the Apache
When: late afternoon
Notes: this happens after Jason went to visit Steph and met Hermione, and also after he talked to Tim.
Warnings: vigilante philosophizing, moral ramifications, merciless rationalization

He doesn't think about it now, but he might later: Jason's actually really happy. Not the way you're supposed to be happy, maybe, but he's never put any stock in that. The thing is, he's busy and he has a purpose. His talk with Barbara went better than he could have imagined. Even Stephanie and Tim didn't go terribly. But it would be completely remiss to forget Stephanie's friend. He remembers the way she looked the night they killed Henry Jennings. In a lot of ways, he has no patience for that, no sympathy — the Militia are as bad as anybody he's ever killed before, and in certain aspects, worse.

However, he'd also seen how good she was. There's no lone rangering this shit, and she would be an asset, if he can convince her the cause is worthy. Maybe a part of him is still annoyed he never brought Mia around. Though he doubts this Kate is anything like Mia apart from their embrace of archery, it seems apt, in a slightly grim way, that he should be on his way to meet her at the Apache to make his case. This time, there will be 100% less kidnapping and blowing up of stuff. The context is completely different, and anyway, Stephanie would do her damnedest to kill him. If he can't convince her, he'll try his best to leave her in a better frame of mind. Refusing to kill is not necessarily problematic, in his mind. As long as she isn't going to pull a Batman on them, it's not a big deal.

Though Kate hadn't seen his face that night, he's wearing the same jacket, he moves roughly the same way. He glances around the bar for her as he heads towards a booth, where their conversation will likely go uninterrupted.

Who: STEPHANIE, KATE, HELENA, and JASON
What: vigilante anti-Militia party
Where: Deadman's Walk 12, Dog Fenn; assorted other locations possibly
When: backdated to the night of Jan. 31 and into the wee hours of Feb. 1
Notes: there are some different sections, one for Kate and Steph to meet up/coordinate, one for Helena and Jason to do the same, and one where y'all tag anyone you want GO WILD, because coordinating 4 people in different time zones is just not gonna work
Warnings: torture and general violence!

Helena had told him she'd meet him there, as finding a baby-sitter with little warning isn't always easy. He uses the travel time to take notes on the four different transmissions he'd received, sorting the information and prioritizing it. Of the four, the Howl Barrow raid kept his attention the most. There is a face, a name, and an address. That seems promising, and he figures, it would be best to move fast.

People talk about the transmissions in brief, hushed intervals, but he sits there like he really is studious chemistry major Nate, head down, notepad filling up. There is, however, a long black bag at his feet, heavy with useful things that would be difficult to explain were anyone to open it right here, right now.

No one does, of course. Even busy, Jason tends to exude a certain sense of fuck off please, an attitude generally respected by Baedal citizens of all stripes.

Helena is his only real ally right now; it would take an emergency for him to think of calling on Tim, Barbara, Superboy, or Stephanie. And this isn't an emergency yet. He's sure they can handle this, as long as they're quick. He does imagine that other people are taking similar actions across town, and he spares enough time to think that sooner or later, they're going to have to coordinate, somehow. He doesn't know how soon that will be true.

When: Veerdi afternoon and evening.
Notes: None.
Warnings:  None.

With no afternoon appointments and no one needing his immediate help at the Glory Shada (he is a counselor, after all, and they tend to keep more regular hours), Charles decides to slip away from work early in order to window shop around the city. It's mostly to look at furniture and other essential household items, although bookshops and strange trinkets inevitably end up catching his eye. Every so often he can be seen in shops, snapping pictures on his CiD, enquiring after prices and how long someone will be able to keep a reservation. Occasionally he'll wander into a cafe for coffee or tea on the go, more to warm up on a chilly Ruundary than anything else.

While walking, he lets his mind idle around, picking up and sifting through passing thoughts as he goes. Despite some friendly warnings to be cautious and his own recent encounters with the unforeseen forces of Baedal, he really can't help himself at times.

Who: Kate and Billy
What: Shopping for... stuff.
Where: Somewhere in Abrogate Green
When: Coardi, early afternoon
Warnings: It's a sex shop. There's your warning.

How and why she let Billy talk her into this, Kate will never know. Maybe he whammied her with some of his magic... no, Billy's not like that and that she knows it. It's pure curiosity, if she's willing to admit it, that brings her to a bench across the street in this not quite seedy but not quite top class neighborhood of Baedal. It's pure embarrassment that keeps her on that bench, coat hood pulled far over her head, and not in front of the adult shop that Billy and her agreed to meet at for a little shopping trip for her benefit.

Her benefit. The only benefit she'll be getting of this kind. It'll be good for her. Really. She wants to get comfortable with the subject of sex and the entire concept of it for so many reasons that Kate can't list. Might as well start by learning from somebody she trusts and who apparently knows the ins and outs of it (pun completely intended.)

Who: Kate and John
What: John uses Tommy as an excuse to talk to Kate, HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES TOMMY
Where: the library
When: during Kate's work hours (SORRY MARTEL)
Notes: takes place after Tommy's post to the network
Warnings: probably not, but the library IS a pretty racy place, what with all the books

It's late afternoon when John slips out of the Samizdat offices, figuring he's finally accrued enough intern abuse to be excused for an early absence. At this point he knows they can't fire him — he does too much, and one of the editors just had a mental breakdown. They won't appreciate this, but they can't do jack.

He's been back to the library a few times since the first time he ran into Kate, but he hadn't seen her those times because he'd been taking care to avoid her, and if he had seen her on those occasions, he would have flung away the romance novels he'd borrowed as research panickedly. So far the basic plot outline seems pretty straightforward, and if he fills in the blanks with more interesting characters, maybe someone will see fit to publish it.

There's also the matter of Tommy's monster from the black lagoon, but with teeth. If he'd wanted to ask Kate about that, though, he could have just messaged her over the CiD. But that's no way to make an impression. Not that he's trying for that. Trying is for try hards. He is instead just super casually dropping by her desk, and if he happens to be slightly better dressed today, sort of (it's the nice hoodie), so what.

He'll just open up with a totally awesome, "Hey."

Who: Faramir and OPEN
What: Rangers Gonna Range
Where: The woods of Sobek Croix
When: the first days after his arrival
Notes: none so far
Warnings: He's out hunting, so, uh. Try not to look like a rabbit? :D

It is not that he is mistrustful because that is not his nature and if Boromir decided to pledge loyalty to Hellsing his heart would never allow him to doubt their integrity. Still, it is not in him to stay within the organization's walls for long, not until he has a better understanding of this place and not until he has sorted through all his thoughts and doubts and confusion. Until he can be at peace with the idea that there might be a reason for him to be here.

He mostly camps out, exploring and wandering the ranges of Sobek Croix' woods, hunting, thinking. Accepting to be here is hard. Coming to terms with the idea that he failed is hard. Not being with his Rangers any longer is hard, too, and should they not be here with him as they set out for Osgiliath together? Because that is what he assumes to be his fate. Faramir, too, must have fallen in battle. That it shall not be for him to know what is to be of Gondor and Middle Earth is probably the hardest of all. He can only try to imagine how that very feeling must have been like for his brother upon his arrival.

He is studying his CiD as well, still careful, respectful, watching the news and conversations unfold before his eyes while he sits by a small campfire in the evening, wondering how any of this is possible, getting edgier with each passing day, hungry for information. Clockwork and lightning. How does it all work? Once he is more accustomed, more at ease with his device he will set out and ask for libraries, schools, places of lore and knowledge.

For now he will keep roaming the district, collecting berries and mushrooms and testing out the new arrows made from Croix wood.

Where: A coffeeshop near Kate's house -- lady's choice
When: After this post
Warnings: None yet

Tommy speeds over to Kate's and he's knocking on the door before he even finishes sending her a reply over the CiD. He pushest his goggles up on his forehead when he comes to a stop. It spikes his bangs up into a mess, but in his opinion he looks good any time, so he's not embarrassed at all about it. Instead, he waves when the door opens, and grins maybe a little wider than usual, to cover the fact that his mood isn't exactly the best. It'll even out when he distracts himself with Kate's company.

Who: Kate and John
What: A mutant walks into a bar library....
Where: The Library of the Blessed St. Brian
When: Shundi afternoon

With it being Shundi (Kate still calls it Sunday purely by habit), the library's quieter than usual. Only a handful of people mill around the shelves, getting around the place with practiced ease and familiarity. Not that Kate minds much; it's less work that she has to do. However, less work also means more boredom, so a pencil finds itself as a makeshift hair clip holding her long dark hair out of the way as she spins around slowly in her chair at the information desk.

Only four more hours of this and she can stop by Wanda's for a free dinner.

As stated on the invitation, Adrian is throwing a costume party to celebrate Lex's twenty-fifth birthday at the Luthor-Veidt Building in Brock Marsh. Everyone is welcome, whether they know Lex or not. There's plenty of food and free alcohol (mostly wine, fancy beer, and champagne), music and a space for dancing, and room to mingle and make new friends. Some simple and classy decorations, purple of course, have been put up on the first and second floors to create a festive atmosphere.

(A note to those who might try to take the opportunity to go snooping: security is insanely tight. The elevators will not go beyond the first and second floors without a special code, and there's an elevator operator who is very obviously there to make sure you don't try anything funny. The stairwells are likewise under guard and the private areas of the first floor are locked and under camera surveillance.)
