Strange events tend to go unnoticed in Baedal, compared to the much stranger things happening around them. People don't tend to be noticed when they go missing, either. The city takes these things in stride. After all, people get called back to their homeworld all the time, or they die. Everyone knows this.

Still, rumors start cropping up around the city about the sudden appearance of twelve identical towers positioned around the city like the face of a clock...

What: A swanky party.
When: Sukkardi, 8 PM to the wee hours of the morning.
Where: Gibeah, Jack's new house in Syriac Well.
Warnings: None! Please place warnings in your subject lines as needed and I will edit them in.

Jack wasn't kidding about inviting half of Syriac Well. He may in fact have invited all of Syriac well but is only expecting half to show up. Still, it's his first chance to impress the people who will, with any luck, someday become his constituents. That goes for Syriac Well and the new cohort. (He doesn't plan to stop at city councilor, after all.) But, one step at a time. He hasn't even announced his candidacy yet; first, he has to meet the neighbors.

And so the house is done up with no expense spared, although care has been taken not to look too over the top. Syriac Well is upper middle class, and that means appreciating the finer things but perhaps not appreciating snobbery. There are servants, but not too many, and guests in fabulous gowns, but no shortage of cocktail-length dresses either. No one is turned away. The lights are hung, the food is served, and music wafts through the building. It's time for a party.

Notes: I want your CR and I want your revenge. Tho I apologize ahead of time - Bruce is not really proactive socially so if you want to hurl your character at him you might have to be the one to poke him with a stick. Also his permissions post has been updated, so if you haven't interacted with him before it's worth a read. I'M SORRY THIS CHARACTER IS SO DIFFICULT.

Kalinda hasn't been getting near as much extra work as she would like. Rather, she isn't making as much money from her extra work as she would like. Money isn't tight, exactly, but it isn't as abundant as she's used to it being. So much of what she does is built on her image, and that image requires maintenance, that maintenance requires cash. She has a feeling her current assignment, which has had her running from one end of the city to the other, isn't going to result in her being paid the previously agreed upon amount, being as how it's not producing the result her client hoped for.

Fortunately, she took half up front.

On this block in Canker Wedge, in a gap between buildings so slight the wind holds its breath to squeeze through, stairs rise from nowhere. A glowing railing corkscrews into the sky in a silver strand. The first step clangs metallic underfoot; as Don sets his hand on the railing its light fades then begins to pulsate. The climb isn't as steep, doesn't last as long as it should. It feels like flipping forward in a book.

At the top is a star-flecked night blanketing a distant city. For a while he drinks in the view; for a while it offers the same soothing burn as a glass of whiskey. Then he makes his way between the two long counters reaching for the bar. Heat blooms in unexpected pockets along the way: it's warmer up here than it is inside.

He orders a drink and as he waits realizes there's no music playing.
