Who: Benji Ryans (and later, Wolfgang Einhorn)
What: Just a little law and order.
Where: The Spatters
When: All of 31st.
Note: During the raid, there is a halt on all communications going in and out of the Spatters -- no media is leaked, and the reception for CiD is just flat out poor. In the aftermath, there's a blackout of information.
Warnings: References to police brutality.

payglorytoashes: (and all the brooks & soldiers run away?)
[personal profile] payglorytoashes
Who: Youko and Rodolphus
What: I KNOW WHAT THE FUCK IS EVEN GOING ON but seriously they're on Hellsing business
Where: the Spatters, on the border with Howl Barrow
When: backdated to some time last week
Notes: hi
Warnings: probable eldritch horrors

The anonymous transmissions have stirred up enough trouble for the Militia that the fringe areas of Baedal, particular the Spatters, are going with even less protection than usual. It's a prime time for independent troublemakers to step up their activities, and Hellsing's response is to increase their drive through patrols. With much of their regular staff busy, even less competent field operatives like Rodolphus are seeing their share of action; and it's no coincidence he's been paired with Youko, despite their lack of familiarity with each other. Rodolphus accepted the pairing and orders without complaint. Work is one of two things he shows interest in, and he appreciates quiet people just as much as he appreciates lively ones. It's possible he doesn't care if he's injured or killed. He hasn't bothered to think about it.

The location they've been directed to is disturbingly near the fog, but neither he nor Youko are the type to show any discomfort. Their target is supposed to be holed up somewhere in the vicinity of these mostly abandoned buildings, which lie opposite a semi-abandoned amusement park. If Rodolphus cared, he might wonder about the geography of Baedal, whether years ago, the fog was not so dangerously close, or whether someone was just demented and rich enough to build it here. But he doesn't. He simply follows Youko, wand in gloved hand, alert in a mindless fashion. The briefing had indicated that some kind of magic user was creating or altering misshapen creatures, some of which were escaping the Spatters to the general populace.

Somewhere in the nearest building, it sounds like two cats are mewing — not in a way which suggests they're fighting or mating, but as if they are having an unpleasant conversation.

Who: Jim Kirk, Leonard McCoy, Jones, Tadhg MacEibhir, Martha Jones, Hasibe Ozcelik

What: Those who would help the good captain rescue tinies, assemble!

Where: the catacombs in the north Spatters area.

When: The 1st, starting at 6 pm. The day after the events here

Notes: Lineup for the log may change as I consult with people. Tag in, talk with Jim, talk with each other, whatever you like. Claire wrote the first four paragraphs, for setup—thank you! :D

Warnings: Mentions of child abuse and murder, plus additional NPC menacing of children, and Jim being violent and briefly torturing someone for information, in the narrative set-up behind the cut. Also tl;dr, look, the words just came out, okay.

Ketch Heath, on the official city map, ends at a point. In reality, there are no clear divisions, no lines on the ground or any neat borders where grass ends and dreary fog-covered dirt begins; the buildings continue, tacked onto streets that haven't been kept up in hundreds of years, cracked and overgrown - shanty towns and wooden structures intersperse the framework of things both old and hauled in through the fog. To miles past what passes for the border in between the edge of the canton and the Spatters, down a crumbling alley, a meeting is taking place.

The area is otherwise deserted - there's not much viable, picked clean and dirty, and the occasional lookout that can be seen peering through cracks in old boarded up windows assume anyone not dressed like a Militia agent has been invited. (Because who else would know where to go, and when?)

For the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these… )

[personal profile] caballero
Who: Bruce Wayne, Jim Kirk.
What: Observations and delegating. (Sort of.)
Where: Various places.
When: 29th-31st. Ish.
Warnings: References to violence, more TBA.

It isn't difficult to track Jim Kirk's CiD. The first to respond on his peer cohort, the first in the city as a whole to respond in an unselfish way. Bruce keeps tabs on him and digs up everything else he can, and learns he's the first to be proactive about it, too. He makes a note of it, of him, and then when his schedule knots, he knows just what to do: borrow a Starfleet captain to untie it.

(Starfleet is a word that itches in the back of his mind and annoys him in a way he doesn't actually want to think harder about - a multidimensional repetitive, like his own name. Does it make Kirk someone of more or less interest? He puts it out of his mind.)

The timing has to work; he's got a day to work with for sure and a day in limbo, half a day to get where he needs to go after that. So he follows Kirk and makes it sloppy (for him) so that the other man will notice - but just barely. It can't look like he's trying to get noticed, in fact it can't look like anything at all. It has to feel like someone's watching him, and he has to hope Kirk is an observant enough man to pick up on it. But if there's anyone who's a cold professional at manipulating how he's seen or not seen to others - be it specific people, crowds, entire cities - it's Bruce Wayne.

Shaking the cage of people in his same predicament, turns out, isn't as engaging as he had hoped. He doesn't like the CiD, it fits wrong in his hand, he feels like he could shatter it if he draws tendon and bone tight in a fist, and its mechanisms feel too small for his fingers. But eventually, he sends off a text message, some delayed and somewhat grudging.
could use that beer
He misses traffic, too. Cars don't spook so easily and he can live out of a truck.

There is a time after dusk that he picks up a scent, and follows it all the way into the Spatters. He'd been looking for it before and despite the waning hour, because a little darkness never killed nobody, and he had to know.

The evenings he isn't working in the gambling dens, with cards and fists both, to make his way are spent in hibernation on uncomfortable mattresses with a roof over his head. Daylight holds as many bar interiors as the evening. It isn't like useless, purposeless roaming never suited him before.

It just chafes, this time around.

Who: Fish, Deacon Frost
What: Something goes wrong in Spatters, and no one is surprised. Except the people involved.
Where: Spatters, in one of the not completely terrible blocks.
When: Shundi evening (OOCly: the 4th of December).

It stopped raining when the sun went down, which is good news for night life.

City lamps paint illumination off puddles, where they've collected murky on the sidewalks and water makes the streets seem made of ink over asphalt. Ramshackle residential buildings, businesses that barely limp along, and those that don't have anywhere indoors to go are what lines the roads. There is, at one stage, the rather unusual but very sharp sound of horse hooves clapping down the road, a rider directing steed through space otherwise occupied by cars, but gone again like a ghost.

The predators are more silent, keeping to the shadows, but they're present too.

Somewhere.
