She shouldn't have been this good. That was the thought that ran through Cassandra's head over and over again as she pulled back her bowstring and let the arrow fly. It hit the little target she had set up for herself. To be more specific, it hit her last arrow, splitting it in two. She couldn't have been this good. Cassandra had picked up archery in Rowan, as a means to survive. Before that, she had seen archers, and knew the basic mechanics behind firing a bow, but she had had virtually no experience. Something had changed. Cassandra didn't claim to understand it, but she knew it with the same certainty she had known danger was coming.
The problem was, she didn't have anyone she could talk to about it. Something strange was happening to her and Cassandra felt completely unprepared. There was Apollo, of course, but she had learned long ago the limits of his omnipotence. Besides, she didn't want to be too dependent on him.
Without any guidance, Cassandra decided to approach this phenomenon in her own way. The first step was to test herself, to see just what she was capable of doing. She nocked another arrow into her bow and pulled back on the string. Taking careful aim, she let it fly. With a satisfying crack, it hit her last two arrows, shredding one and splitting the other down the middle.
"Well..."
What else could she really say?
