Who: Patrick and Hawa
What: A second meeting
Where: Outside, not far from the Valhalla Inn
When: Today, earlier.

Patrick was starting to settle into this place. He'd hunkered down at the inn while he looked about for something to generate income for him while he was stuck here. By parts he'd explored -- certainly not everywhere, but he was beginning to get the lay of the land. His morning jogs brought him down streets that were becoming familiar. Routine.

And that was a problem.

He had things waiting for him back home; he couldn't afford to just settle in here comfortably. But he consoled himself with the fact that he would at least learn for his trouble while he was here. With magic an out-in-the-open concept, it was an opportunity he may not get again.

So it was high time he tried to get in contact with Hawa again, and take him up on his offer. Beyond that, he'd rather enjoyed the fey's company that day and well, seeing him again sounded good in general. Not that he was admitting that. Oh no.

It was early afternoon when he found himself wandering outside, eager to get out of the room. It took him a bit to work the CiD so that he wouldn't be shouting out to the entire cohort.

A couple tries. Technology wasn't his strong suit. He was better at old things, books, pencil and paper, magic, toasters. When he got it though, he lifted it up closer to his mouth to speak. "So Hawa? Are you around? I think I owe you a drink, and I'd love to pick your brain. So--" Pausing, Patrick frowned. Was this thing echoing. No? Huh. "So I..." No, definitely an echo. He paused and looked around. Coming from nearby. And... up?

"So I was thinking maybe we could meet up." That was his voice, all right. From up in the tree.

Patrick would indeed take that as a yes. He blinked for a minute and regarded the owl. This was one of the more surreal moments in his life, but he could work with this. No problem. "Well, considering you're, well, literally a night owl, I feel a little bad for waking you up in the middle of the day."

Really, it seemed kind of impolite of him. Not that he'd known. Or had ever even thought to guess.

Hawa would've smiled at that if he could. Instead, the owl spread his wings, moving as though to take off--and instead taking the form Patrick was more familiar with, standing in front of him. The pouch with his CiD within was dangled from a finger before stowed away in the pocket of his long coat. He seemed a bit tired, but none the worse for wear, and his grin came easily enough.

"Don't let it bother you, kid. I don't really mind," he told him, cleared his throat to get the faint huskiness from sleep out. "Didn't expect you to come wandering by, though." He yawned, lifting a hand to his mouth to cover it before combing fingers through his hair.

Patrick tucked away his CiD as well since it seemed a little unnecessary at the moment. He smiled a bit though, despite the kid remark. It wasn't the most helpful of thoughts, but he couldn't help but note that Hawa was rather cute with the whole sleepy thing he had going on. "Well, I'm always full of the unexpected."

A bit of a grin and he reached up to fluff Hawa's hair -- payback for the other day, of course. "Who knew birds got bedhead too?" The things you learned without expecting to. "So I was going to see if you wanted to come over for cocoa and maybe let me pick your brain about magic."

Hawa's eyes squinted in slight displeasure as he found his hair being fluffed and resisted the urge to go making a horrible mess of Patrick's hair in return. Instead, he made a little sound like a disgruntled growling, though his lips were still tugged upward at the corners. "Try not to spread it around."

He shifted, though, cocked his head slightly. "That so? I guess I could spare some time, since I'm up now and all." Arms were lifted, stretched above his head as he cracked his knuckles, rolling his shoulders.

Patrick grinned at the squinting and disgruntled sounds. But he drew his hand back, turning his gaze towards Hawa with a bit of a laugh. "My lips are sealed. Promise."

After all, it was a bit of an odd conversation starter anyway. But when Hawa spoke again, his expression brightened almost exponentially. "Really? Great! Well, then, we can go back to my room at the inn?"

Hawa shook his head at him, amused, then moved to take a few steps from the tree and toward the main road. He glanced back to Patrick, lifting a brow as though to say so, are you coming? with amusement plain on his face.

"We can." For a couple of hours, at least. Not for too long, because Hawa would have to catch up on his sleep eventually. "Mind you, there's a lot to say about it, so I doubt we're gonna get to everything in one afternoon." But they could make a good start, yep.

Patrick blinked but fell into step beside Hawa and started on his way back to the inn. "So, is that you're way of saying we'll need a second date?" The teasing was past his lips before he even realized it. He grinned anyway. "I'll happily listen whenever you're willing to talk about it."

"Oh? So this is our first date?" Hawa's reply is offhanded, unruffled, and he grins over at Patrick.

He lifted a hand from his pocket then, giving it a wave as though of dismissal. "As long as I'm not right in the middle of something, I don't mind. Gives me something to do." And he supposes Patrick isn't bad company, oh no. He's at least someone Hawa's liking more and more the more time he spends around him and wouldn't mind spending more around.

"That's right. So mind your manners. I'm an old fashioned sort," Patrick answered him, quite seriously before a grin near exploded across his face. "Well, if there ever is anything I can do to make it up to you, just name it."

He didn't have the chance for this back home. Add to that the fact that Hawa was rather enjoyable company when all was said and done.

"Well then. I'll be sure to open all the doors for you and pull out your chair when you go to sit down," Hawa quipped back, half-dipping into a bow as they walked along. They were nearing the inn now, and he glanced to Patrick, slowing his steps slightly to the younger man could walk ahead and lead them the rest of the way.

"Heh. I'll keep that in mind. Let you know if anything comes to me later." And indeed Hawa was going to keep it in mind--it was in his nature, really.

"An owl and a gentleman. You are a rare breed, Hawa." Patrick informed him wiht a chuckle as he trotted ahead just a bit to head up to the inn and inside. He knew he had to find someplace to live soon, since they'd be kicking him out of here. But that was going to take a bit more exploring.

A bit of a grin and he glanced back over his shoulder at Hawa. "Good. Do." He paused, digging out his key before opening the door to his room. "Here we are!"

"Well, I'm only a gentleman when the situation and the company calls for it." Hawa watched him go with amusement, then returning his attention to the doors of the inn they passed through, steps quieter in the hallway. His expression was quiet, thoughtful, brow furrowed as though he were thinking about something else for a moment.

He resisted the urge to tease Patrick on bringing another man back to his room on their second meeting and instead stepped inside once the other had.

Patrick glanced back with a grin once more. "Well, suppose I can't fault you for that. It's good to keep your options open, for when different situations call for different things."

Pushing the door open, he gestured for Hawa to come in. "Make yourself at home. Well, as at home as you can in this place. It's not a tree or anything." He headed over to the little kitchenette area to see about getting a couple mugs. "Want a drink? Hot chocolate, tea, some fairly lousy but still serviceable coffee?"

Hawa was too restless to go and sit--something about being indoors any place. So he followed Patrick, his hands tucking into his pockets, his head tilted slightly. Watching him like he had when he was in his owl form earlier. "I think you promised me some hot chocolate last time, didn't you?"

He took in the kitchenette. He hadn't stayed long in his room, no--he'd only glanced into it out of curiosity before abandoning it for greener pastures. Sort of literally.

Patrick grinned a bit. "That's right, I did. So long as you're on board, then hot chocolate it is." And he gets about starting that up. Every now and again though he casts a look over towards Hawa, more than a little curious about him.

Once the milk was set to heating, he turned around, leaning his back against the small counter. "So then, where should we start?"

"I'm on board. Otherwise, I wouldn't have asked, would I?" His voice was low, playful, as he walked nearer before finding a comfortable spot against the wall to lean, away from any iron-containing appliances.

"Well, it all depends on where you'd like to start. Magic is a big study subject, after all. What are you good at, particularly?" He cocked his head slightly, looking at Patrick expectantly.

"Suppose you wouldn't," Patrick laughs a little, eyes still tracking Hawa's movements. He wasn't entirely sure why this guy was as interesting as he was. Quiet for a moment, Patrick considered his question. "Good at. Hmm. Well, I'm a lot better at manipulating and conducting magic once it's present than I am at summoning it up." It was why his apartment back home was littered with talismans and magical objects. That magic was easier to set in motion.

He listened, his head tilted slightly--attentively. It sounded similar to what they were initially taught to do in the upholders as novices, in the manipulation of magic. Hawa frowned thoughtfully, then nodded slightly. "I see. What d'you want to start off with, then?" Summoning up magic could be a difficult process, depending on the person--humans, especially. Hawa was surprised it was present in Patrick to begin with.

Patrick took a moment before responding, his face working into something of a thoughtful expression. "Understanding. You know what human history and books know about magic? Very, very little. But for a subject, well, about manipulating it... is there a limit? How much can you change the nature of a thing?"

After all, if he could flip things entirely, that would make dealing with demons somewhat more interesting.

"Humans aren't exactly the best sources, no." Hawa looked amused for an instant, then he was listening, arms coming to fold over his chest. "There are limits--but mostly in what you yourself can do. It's not an easy business, working with magic. It can be exhausting. Manipulate too long or try to manipulate something into something else entirely and you could have yourself passing out, depending."

He lifted his hand, thumb rubbing at his chin, his jaw thoughtfully. "But other than that, there are a lot of ways you can manipulate something. With magic, it's all connected in that it's magic, no matter what it is."

Patrick nodded at that, wincing just slightly. "Yeah, I've done the passing out thing before. Though admittedly that mostly happens when I try to pull it from myself. Anything more than a little bit and I'm sort of wrecked."

He took a moment to mix the hot chocolates, stirring in the heated milk slowly. Snagging the can of whipped cream out of the fridge -- what, he had priorities, ok? -- he topped both mugs off with a generous bit of whipped cream before sliding Hawa's towards him. "I suppose that's true, all different parts of the same whole. "Ah... do you know anything about magic in relation to the elements?"

"Figures. Humans aren't built the same usually in regards to magic." It was buried so deep it was hard to get at, wasn't it? Sometimes he could sense it in some people who he had passed, but nothing that predominant.

Hawa nodded as he listened--staring a little at the whipped cream. Kind of went all out, didn't he? Hiding a grin, he took the mug, sipping slowly from it. "Elements? Mmm, about as much as the next fey. I suppose that'd still be quite a bit, though. You looking to harness them?"

"Yeah, so I've found out. I've only met a few people who could ever really touch it." Patrick took a moment to poke at the whipped cream, collecting a bit with a finger before licking it off thoughtfully. "Well, not so much in harnessing, but that's the easiest for me to manage, focusing it through the air."

"It's an admirable skill, to be certain," Hawa said slowly, watching the other before looking down at his drink and raising the mug to his mouth. He took a drink from it slowly, humming. It was good--Hawa wasn't much for human-made drinks or foods back home, but he did enjoy this. Licking his lips slowly, he considered.

"Air's easiest when it comes to manipulating or channelling. I'm good at changing the properties of magic others use on me, even when it comes to elemental." Regent had been more the sort to summon up elemental power from around him and within himself. They hadn't called his brother a prodigy for nothing.

Patrick couldn't help but fluff up a bit, pleased at that sound. Damn straight it was good. Cooking wasn't his thing, but hot chocolate he could do. Oh, and he made a mean batch of muffins. He poked the whipped cream again. "Don't suppose you'd, ah... show me yours?" A pause and he added, with a much more amused tone. "I'll show you mine."
