Who: Patrick and Hawa
What: A second meeting
Where: Outside, not far from the Valhalla Inn
When: Today, earlier.
Notes: ♪ ♫ ♫ ♪ ♪ ♪ ♬ ♬ ♫ ♫ ♫ ♪
Warnings: Beware of owls (no warnings to mention yet)
Patrick was starting to settle into this place. He'd hunkered down at the inn while he looked about for something to generate income for him while he was stuck here. By parts he'd explored -- certainly not everywhere, but he was beginning to get the lay of the land. His morning jogs brought him down streets that were becoming familiar. Routine.
And that was a problem.
He had things waiting for him back home; he couldn't afford to just settle in here comfortably. But he consoled himself with the fact that he would at least learn for his trouble while he was here. With magic an out-in-the-open concept, it was an opportunity he may not get again.
So it was high time he tried to get in contact with Hawa again, and take him up on his offer. Beyond that, he'd rather enjoyed the fey's company that day and well, seeing him again sounded good in general. Not that he was admitting that. Oh no.
It was early afternoon when he found himself wandering outside, eager to get out of the room. It took him a bit to work the CiD so that he wouldn't be shouting out to the entire cohort.
A couple tries. Technology wasn't his strong suit. He was better at old things, books, pencil and paper, magic, toasters. When he got it though, he lifted it up closer to his mouth to speak. "So Hawa? Are you around? I think I owe you a drink, and I'd love to pick your brain. So--" Pausing, Patrick frowned. Was this thing echoing. No? Huh. "So I..." No, definitely an echo. He paused and looked around. Coming from nearby. And... up?
"So I was thinking maybe we could meet up." That was his voice, all right. From up in the tree.

But being brought here threw it all off balance again. So he was trying to accustom himself to a nocturnal life the bird he changed into was accustomed to. He'd started sleeping most of early morning and day away. From the evenings onward he could be more alert and he found more comfort in the dark of night. Of course, there were times he couldn't sleep when he wanted to, and times when he wasn't sleeping when he wanted to.
Today was one of the rare occasions he was actually getting some sleep. He'd found a tree that had a comfortably-sized hollow for him to settle into. Of course, he found himself jerking away with a hard blink of round yellow eyes as he felt a voice coming through the CiD tucked to the side. He observed it irritably, until familiarity registered. Wasn't that Patrick? Hmm. He supposed he could wake himself up for this... He kind of liked the kid, after all.
Fluffing feathers up, he took the little pouch of sorts he had put together from a few scraps, the CiD resting within, and hopped to the edge of the hollow. Of course, it was about then he noticed Patrick. Standing not very far at all and the owl froze, pouch in beak, the last of Patrick's words (slightly muffled) echoing from the device in question.
no subject
Well.
He couldn't help but stare for a moment. It wasn't often that Patrick Leary found himself speechless. Huh. Slowly, he lifted the CiD up once more. "Hawa... I think an owl may have robbed you."
And there was his voice, right out of that little pouch. It was then he noticed that the rune against his wrist was growing somewhat hotter, even warmer than it seemed to be normally since he'd arrived in this city. He looked back up to the owl -- who was staring at him, wasn't he?
"Umm..."
no subject
A quick flutter of wings and Hawa eased down to a lower branch, cocking his head slightly at Patrick.
Hey, you. You're a smart kid, you can figure it out. Yellow eyes seemed to squint, amused, pushing back the initial surprise. He hadn't figured he'd be able to keep what he turned into to himself forever, after all. He had told Patrick that he wasn't human, so this was fine. Another slight tilting of the head, expectant.
no subject
It had to be, didn't it? The other had said he was a fey, and shape shifting wasn't so unheard of in the fey world. "That's you, isn't it?"
no subject
Yellow eyes seemed to blink with amusement as he looked at him. Unable to answer in words, but it should be clear enough by his reaction.
no subject
Really, it seemed kind of impolite of him. Not that he'd known. Or had ever even thought to guess.
no subject
"Don't let it bother you, kid. I don't really mind," he told him, cleared his throat to get the faint huskiness from sleep out. "Didn't expect you to come wandering by, though." He yawned, lifting a hand to his mouth to cover it before combing fingers through his hair.
no subject
A bit of a grin and he reached up to fluff Hawa's hair -- payback for the other day, of course. "Who knew birds got bedhead too?" The things you learned without expecting to. "So I was going to see if you wanted to come over for cocoa and maybe let me pick your brain about magic."
no subject
He shifted, though, cocked his head slightly. "That so? I guess I could spare some time, since I'm up now and all." Arms were lifted, stretched above his head as he cracked his knuckles, rolling his shoulders.
no subject
After all, it was a bit of an odd conversation starter anyway. But when Hawa spoke again, his expression brightened almost exponentially. "Really? Great! Well, then, we can go back to my room at the inn?"
no subject
"We can." For a couple of hours, at least. Not for too long, because Hawa would have to catch up on his sleep eventually. "Mind you, there's a lot to say about it, so I doubt we're gonna get to everything in one afternoon." But they could make a good start, yep.

He lifted a hand from his pocket then, giving it a wave as though of dismissal. "As long as I'm not right in the middle of something, I don't mind. Gives me something to do." And he supposes Patrick isn't bad company, oh no. He's at least someone Hawa's liking more and more the more time he spends around him and wouldn't mind spending more around.
no subject
He didn't have the chance for this back home. Add to that the fact that Hawa was rather enjoyable company when all was said and done.
no subject
"Heh. I'll keep that in mind. Let you know if anything comes to me later." And indeed Hawa was going to keep it in mind--it was in his nature, really.
no subject
A bit of a grin and he glanced back over his shoulder at Hawa. "Good. Do." He paused, digging out his key before opening the door to his room. "Here we are!"
no subject
He resisted the urge to tease Patrick on bringing another man back to his room on their second meeting and instead stepped inside once the other had.
no subject
Pushing the door open, he gestured for Hawa to come in. "Make yourself at home. Well, as at home as you can in this place. It's not a tree or anything." He headed over to the little kitchenette area to see about getting a couple mugs. "Want a drink? Hot chocolate, tea, some fairly lousy but still serviceable coffee?"
no subject
He took in the kitchenette. He hadn't stayed long in his room, no--he'd only glanced into it out of curiosity before abandoning it for greener pastures. Sort of literally.
no subject
Once the milk was set to heating, he turned around, leaning his back against the small counter. "So then, where should we start?"
no subject
"Well, it all depends on where you'd like to start. Magic is a big study subject, after all. What are you good at, particularly?" He cocked his head slightly, looking at Patrick expectantly.

After all, if he could flip things entirely, that would make dealing with demons somewhat more interesting.
no subject
He lifted his hand, thumb rubbing at his chin, his jaw thoughtfully. "But other than that, there are a lot of ways you can manipulate something. With magic, it's all connected in that it's magic, no matter what it is."
