Who: Patrick and Hawa
What: A second meeting
Where: Outside, not far from the Valhalla Inn
When: Today, earlier.

Patrick was starting to settle into this place. He'd hunkered down at the inn while he looked about for something to generate income for him while he was stuck here. By parts he'd explored -- certainly not everywhere, but he was beginning to get the lay of the land. His morning jogs brought him down streets that were becoming familiar. Routine.

And that was a problem.

He had things waiting for him back home; he couldn't afford to just settle in here comfortably. But he consoled himself with the fact that he would at least learn for his trouble while he was here. With magic an out-in-the-open concept, it was an opportunity he may not get again.

So it was high time he tried to get in contact with Hawa again, and take him up on his offer. Beyond that, he'd rather enjoyed the fey's company that day and well, seeing him again sounded good in general. Not that he was admitting that. Oh no.

It was early afternoon when he found himself wandering outside, eager to get out of the room. It took him a bit to work the CiD so that he wouldn't be shouting out to the entire cohort.

A couple tries. Technology wasn't his strong suit. He was better at old things, books, pencil and paper, magic, toasters. When he got it though, he lifted it up closer to his mouth to speak. "So Hawa? Are you around? I think I owe you a drink, and I'd love to pick your brain. So--" Pausing, Patrick frowned. Was this thing echoing. No? Huh. "So I..." No, definitely an echo. He paused and looked around. Coming from nearby. And... up?

"So I was thinking maybe we could meet up." That was his voice, all right. From up in the tree.

Patrick watched him closely, curious. But he stepped closer when the other gestured. Maybe he should have noticed that little grin, but he was a bit too busy being caught up in the way even that little bit of magic stirring has something in him thrumming, as though his blood cells were vibrating ever so slightly. He looked up at Hawa curiously, expectantly.

Hawa wanted to try something. So he set his palm on Patrick's shoulder, letting his magic stir, flow outward, along his arm and toward the hand resting on the other. He was curious. Curious how magic worked within the human. So he let his own flow down, until he was letting it pass from his own body through to Patrick's, the air around them stirring, whipping into a small breeze.

Patrick looked just a little startled at that. All at once his breath caught in his throat as he felt the flow of that magic. Something in him stirred almost immediately towards it, something almost electric as it woke and rushed to meet Hawa's magic, almost eager to pull that power towards itself, to wrap around it and figure it out, break it down.

Ah, he thought, and resisted the urge to jerk back, separate the contact he had with Patrick. Instinct to guard himself and the magic that lived inside of him. He remained where he was, though, even as his body grew stiff and his jaw tightened as he pushed his baser urgings back.

So he let Patrick do what he was doing, eyes closing, making himself more aware of the faint burn of magic. Cautious still, in case he would need to tear away.

There was no way that Patrick would miss that tensing though. His eyes widen just a bit and he murmured a quiet, "Sorry." Too much of what he did was instinct, reflex. Control was still a very, very steep learning curve for him. He lifted his hand to settle atop the one of Hawa's at his shoulder and turned his concentration into shifting the metaphorical car of his magic into neutral, not tamping the magic back but calming it.

"S'all right," was Hawa's gruff reply, his eyebrows furrowed and those odd, bright yellow eyes focused on Patrick. He himself was the one who decided to give this a try, he certainly didn't blame Patrick and the magic within him for acting on instinct. His fingers flexed beneath the weight of Patrick's hand and he breathed out slow through his teeth.

He was letting the other get a feel for magic different than his own-- Admittedly, he'd been curious as to just how Patrick would react.

Patrick looked back at him, silent now. He can feel the power moving through him, distinctly separate and different from his own. It has that often-dormant magic in him just shy of dancing at the moment, eager to be let loose to play. "I can feel it, feel you. It's... you're... different." It wasn't the demonic sort of energy he was used to. It was vastly different than the magic he knew from different talismans, objects, even the few places that radiated it.

"Never had a taste of fairy magic before?" is what Hawa asked him with a low chuckle, smiling now. He was relaxing slowly, gradually, growing accustomed to this--he didn't often share his magic with another, and a human no less. There'd never really been anyone he bothered with before enough to actually want to.

"I didn't expect you to have so much. Never met a human with this much magic in them." This was murmured in such a way one would think he was just talking to himself. "Here. Keep some of it." He drew some of that power back--but he let some of the magic linger in the other. "I want to see if you can manipulate it." He lifted his free hand then--and power swelled in his palm. The air seemed to pick up around it, encircling the magic, drawn to it, until what looked like a ball of nothingness floated above his hand, surrounded by wind dense enough to be seen moving.

"Not even close," Patrick answered, still a bit bewildered by the feeling. Well then, he really was learning already, wasn't he? It was an interesting lesson, really, this realization that it could feel so different.

He paused for a moment though as Hawa spoke. Patrick's brow furrowed just a bit. He could feel it still. Eyes tracking what Hawa had going on, Patrick considered for a moment. The magic already buzzing in him made this easier really. Shutting his eyes in concentration, he lifted both his hands, clasped together as though holding something small and delicate -- a caught butterfly or captive lightning bug. It took a moment, but once it started, it came freely, focusing the magic Hawa had left lingering in him, trying to mimic what he saw, opening his hands slowly as a small whirling sphere appeared between them, visible only in the faint disturbance of the air, rippling.

A grin flickered over Hawa's face--his eyes seemed to glint, pleased. "There you go," he hummed as he watched the magic build, felt it more than saw. "Interesting. So you can do it." The sphere above his own palm died down, wisps of air becoming visible no more.

He decided he'd just leave that magic of his with Patrick--it was only a small fragment, and maybe he could make use of it, if he didn't use it all at once.

Patrick held the little shifting sphere of air for a moment more before bringing his hands back together to snuff it out. Even with that extinguished, he could feel that little almost electric buzzing of magic moving through him. He glanced up to Hawa with a bit of a grin. "Yeah, I can do it. No clue why, exactly." He added, more in response to what Hawa had said before. "It's mostly a bit bizarre. By all accounts, I shouldn't be able to -- not without a pretty good reason. But I'm just an oddball."

"You're certainly an odd one," Hawa agreed, nudging at Patrick playfully. He meant it in a good way, of course, but nevertheless--

It was more than a little odd. Interesting, certainly, how he could manipulate the magic. Why was it he was like that and other humans Hawa had encountered in the past weren't? An extended pause in which he brought his hand up toward his chin, rubbing at his jaw, before he shook his head slightly. "I can't do too much with manipulating elements outside of that. I work better when I channel magic through my own body."

He flexed his fingers, a hand, for emphasis. "It can lend a bit of power, in a tight spot."

"Aww, go on now. You'll make me blush," Patrick made a brief face at him before laughing again. When Hawa continued, Patrick's expression grew more serious, thoughtful. "Through your own body?" He echoed, trying to picture how that would work, how the magic would have to flow. Hmm.

"Could you show me?" Did he sound a little bit too eager? He couldn't really help it, to be honest. This was entirely fascinating.

"I can," Hawa said slowly and then held up his hand before him. He clenched his fingers into a fist. "Here, rest your hand on it."

As soon as he felt the weight of Patrick's hand, he would set to work. Work in directing the flow of magic--pooling under his skin in his hand, almost seeming to make the skin hotter, more taut. It's clearly powerful, even to what a human might sense. A strike from that hand would have more of an affect than just bruised skin and a sore ego.

Patrick was paying attention, both his gaze and that odd and inexplicable unnameable sense fixed on his hand atop Hawa's fist. His eyes widened and he nodded to himself. Impressive. He could imagine that coming in handy in a fight.

...and he wondered if that was something he could learn, given enough time. But for now he flashed a grin up at the other man. "Remind me never to piss you off. I get the feeling I'd get my ass handed to me."

Hawa laughed but made no attempts to deny that he could, indeed, kick Patrick's ass. "Then don't piss me off." He playfully knocked his knuckles against Patrick's cheek--just a light graze. "I think you might have a hard time with that, though."

A pause and then he remarked, as casual as you please, "You seem like too nice of a kid, after all."

Patrick laughed at the rather plain answer. Well, good to know Hawa was the confident type. He turned his head just slightly at that mock blow. The next words though, those had his eyebrows lifting just a bit. "Hey now, I'm no kid." He's totally a kid, shh. "Too nice though?"

"You aren't? Coulda fooled me," Hawa remarked in an offhand fashion, burying both hands into the pockets of his long coat. He grinned, cocking his head slightly to one side. "Yeah. What, no-one's told you that before?"

Hawa really considered someone who actively sought him out for one reason or another too nice. At least he was aware of his own, hrm, shortcomings. He had to be aware of them now, given his tumultuous relationship with his brother, and how said brother had avoided getting near to him if he could very well help it. In fact putting as much distance between them as conceivably possible.

"I'm not. And saying things like that makes you sound like an old man, Old Man." Patrick flashed a grin in his direction before his expression turned sheepish. "Not really. But I don't really run in very social circles." Thwarting demons did not lead him to meeting many quality people. Hawa struck him as quality so far. Interesting, knowledgeable. All pretty positive things.

"Old man? Do I look like an old man to you?" Hawa growled it a bit, mock anger. Actually, he hoped he wouldn't look like an old man. He still had a good several hundred years before he thought he'd get any white hairs.

His expression softened into one that was more thoughtful, however. Remembering what the kid had told him. "You're young, you should be spending your days having fun and partying, yeah?"

Patrick took a moment to rather pointedly look him over after that question. One hand lifted, tapping at his chin as he pursed his lips thoughtfully and generally made quite the production of pondering that question. There was a grin threatening his lips though, and he couldn't quite keep it entirely at bay. "Wellllll.... nah. I'd pick a few different adjectives to describe you before I ever came up to old."

Those next words though, they tempered the smile on his face. "I'm not the partying type. And well, I don't have much time. Between studying and then my brother and the demons... I'm not really the funnest guy to be around."

Hawa gave him a rather flat look at the continued thoughtful expression. Flat, but in all joking--maybe? He cocked his head slightly when Patrick spoke once more, snorting lightly. "Care to share?" he asked.

A scuff of the heel of his shoe against the floor and he sighed, lightly. "I don't know, so far you've been pretty fun. Though thankfully there's a lack of demons here," he allowed. All the same, his expression seemed to shadow as he thought of his own brother and the world he still needed to get back to.

Patrick just grinned at the expression and then further at the question. "Solid. Fit. Top of your game. Might even go so far as to say virile."

He paused just a moment at that before nodding. "Well, glad to hear I'm fun. I won't lie, I'd kind of like to have a friend around this place." He noticed the darkening of Hawa's face, the distance that his thoughts seemed to go to. Well, it would make sense, for him to have things waiting for him as well, didn't it?

Hawa snorted at virile, reaching out in order to muss the hair at the side of Patrick's head. "Yeah. That's way better than old."

His hand lingered where it was, giving Patrick a look. A friend, huh? Patrick wouldn't have trouble, he was a kid with a good-natured personality (so it seemed to Hawa). Plenty likeable. "I'm sure you won't have trouble with that," he said, though he didn't think to include himself. What was having friends?

Patrick couldn't help but laugh. It was sort of a ridiculous word outside cheesy romance novels -- not that Patrick would know first hand. He certainly never read any himself.

Nope.

He ducked just a bit from the hair ruffling. He paused though and laughed. "Well, I was sort of hoping to start with you."
