Rumour travels fast in Baedal; soon everyone in Mog Hill and beyond will know that the Militia are at the Valhalla Inn and no one is getting out. Official word is that this is strictly routine; protocol dictates Arrival Houses be locked down for evaluation after a City-wide crisis. It's still early morning. Outside, the sun is rising after a night of gentle rain. Birds sing and gorge themselves on dead monkeys yet to be cleared away. It's going to be a beautiful day.

Meanwhile, inside Valhalla, the Militia have firmly requested that every guest, every employee and every incidental visitor gather in the Common Room as they search the rest of the Inn. The proprietor and her staff are visibly unhappy about the event, but the closest they have come to voicing dissent is managing to call for the Sheriff. Still, so far the gentleman who seems to be in charge of the proceedings has been nothing but curtly polite. The Militia works fast; they have gone through the whole place in less than an hour and are now, as they say, ready to take interviews. These will be conducted one-on-one in a different room of the Inn. Most individuals who arrived after the creature invasion are sorted out and escorted outside of the building. Some, however, are not.

None of the Special's agents or their more thuggish companions say so, at least not out in the Common Room, but it is evident that their search turned up something.

"I'm well. Yourself?" He is calming down, visibly anyway, once the conversation actually starts up, so that his tone is just casually pleasant. He isn't going to sit there swinging his legs and shifting in his seat or anything. Better to let on that he's curious and excited about all this, then show he can put a cap on that when it's time to get to business.

It would make sense that with such a long list of people to interview, the fellow wouldn't be invested, but Eddie isn't inclined to think of himself as just another person on a long list, so if he gets this impression, he will go right on ignoring that.

"That's true. I have my swell new job, to cover myself here a bit longer, so it makes sense to give myself a chance to get a little taste of the ~flavor of the neighborhoods~. I want to pick my favorite place to live... you know, when they aren't all swarming with diseased monkeys." He shrugs. "But now I can factor the city and neighborhoods' response to disaster into my decision, at least."

"Also, prior to my arrival, I spent the past year in an institutional setting, and since I've been separated from my treatment there, it's my responsibility to make sure I don't ~overwhelm myself with my new-found freedom~."

He likes to hear himself talk about how responsible he's being.

"You did read what I told the nice guy in the employment office here, yeah? I'm eager to avoid what I got myself into in Gotham, so of course I'm going to be forthcoming. It's only fair. The people who live here don't pick who comes here." He frowns. Even when he speaks up, there's no context. That's annoying. These people better appreciate the reputation and goals he's lost.

The frown is brief, though. He lights up at the mention of what he was up to during the invasion. "I worked on the Inn's defenses, and scoped things out a little, but... seeing as how I lack ~magical superpowers~ or whatever..." Siiigh. "Defenses were the best use of my talents. That's a pretty interesting challenge, actually, with resources being limited as they are."

That's a pretty good reason to be surly. After a moment, though, Eddie laughs it off. They'll appreciate what he can do, eventually.

He stands and bows, with a flourish, then takes his CiD. "Thank you for your work," he says. "Am I permitted to leave, sir?"
