Costume Party in Honor of Lex Luthor's Birthday [OPEN]

As stated on the invitation, Adrian is throwing a costume party to celebrate Lex's twenty-fifth birthday at the Luthor-Veidt Building in Brock Marsh. Everyone is welcome, whether they know Lex or not. There's plenty of food and free alcohol (mostly wine, fancy beer, and champagne), music and a space for dancing, and room to mingle and make new friends. Some simple and classy decorations, purple of course, have been put up on the first and second floors to create a festive atmosphere.

(A note to those who might try to take the opportunity to go snooping: security is insanely tight. The elevators will not go beyond the first and second floors without a special code, and there's an elevator operator who is very obviously there to make sure you don't try anything funny. The stairwells are likewise under guard and the private areas of the first floor are locked and under camera surveillance.)

[ooc: Please wait until a few threads are set up before tagging! Party time! Everyone is welcome!

Note: I've turned off notifs so if you need my attention in a specific spot, please PM or plurk me.]

Raven has seen a lot of costumes tonight, some of them pretty impressive, but this is the first that's really captured her fascination. The hate moves, looks honestly alive, and for a long moment Raven just stares at it, wondering if she could manage something like that, if she really wanted to.

"I'm sorry to stare," she finally says, actually approaching the man and hoping he doesn't mind the interruption. "But that is the most amazing costume. How did you make it?"

If Xeno doesn't mind the interruption, then whoever he has captured into conversation definitely doesn't mind the interruption, because they're gone in a New York minute when Xeno easily transfers his attention onto compliment and query. "Oh! Why, thank you very much," he says, all warm and grateful pride and in amiable south English diction. The sheep, when it manages to catch a gaze, is almost more direct about it than Xeno, who has a slightly lazy eye-cross thing going.

"With magic. Just a little dash of transfiguration and some other minor charms. Don't worry, it's not alive-- that seems to be a concern, most of the time-- but it imitates it quite well, doesn't it? Your mask is like a flamingo."

"It looks perfectly alive, it's amazing. What is transfiguration, exactly? I thought it might be...shapeshifting, or something." She makes a face like 'oh wouldn't that be silly, shapeshifers ha ha', to cover for the fact that for a moment she thought she might have met another one.

His manner is pleasant despite the odd gaze, however, so Raven smiles at the compliment. "Thank you. I'm supposed to be Gretel, from the fairy tale, but the mask doesn't really have anything to do with that. I just thought it was pretty, and we felt like we should have masks."

[ OOC: MY GOODNESS, sorry for the delay, had a Xeno-wide slowdown. ]

"It's a little like that. Transfiguration is the art of transforming the things into the other things," Xeno explains, hands splaying in animated emphasis, not signalling anything else in particular. "One of the more basic magics we're educated in, y'know, but it takes a little artistry and imagination. I thought it might be worth putting in the effort this one evening."

He takes off his lamb hat, amiably patting its muzzle. "I can't say I know of that fairy tale particularly, but it's nice to meet you, Gretel."

"Transfiguration." Raven likes the sound of the word, it rolls off the tongue nicely, better than 'shapeshifting' does. Maybe she'll try it out on Charles later and see what he thinks. "Everybody where you're from knows how to do that?"

She reaches out to pat the muzzle of the hat as well, because even knowing it's not really a sheep, it still looks and acts like one. "My real name's Raven, but I'm good with Gretel for the night."
