Costume Party in Honor of Lex Luthor's Birthday [OPEN]

As stated on the invitation, Adrian is throwing a costume party to celebrate Lex's twenty-fifth birthday at the Luthor-Veidt Building in Brock Marsh. Everyone is welcome, whether they know Lex or not. There's plenty of food and free alcohol (mostly wine, fancy beer, and champagne), music and a space for dancing, and room to mingle and make new friends. Some simple and classy decorations, purple of course, have been put up on the first and second floors to create a festive atmosphere.

(A note to those who might try to take the opportunity to go snooping: security is insanely tight. The elevators will not go beyond the first and second floors without a special code, and there's an elevator operator who is very obviously there to make sure you don't try anything funny. The stairwells are likewise under guard and the private areas of the first floor are locked and under camera surveillance.)

[ooc: Please wait until a few threads are set up before tagging! Party time! Everyone is welcome!

Note: I've turned off notifs so if you need my attention in a specific spot, please PM or plurk me.]

One horse's ass, incoming!

...In costume only, don't worry. Well, all right--he'll try to make sure it's in costume only.

"Hi," says Jim, offering a charming smile, sporting only half a pantomime horse. "My face isn't covered--is this all right? I'll wear a mask if I must."

"Hello!" Aimery greeted in return. He shook his head, quick to reassure him, "It's perfectly fine, you needn't a mask unless you want one."

He paused mouth open as if to say something. Aimery had never been lucky enough to see a pantomime horse in action, so instead of recognizing him as a horse's back end, he saw a man in brown trousers with hooves on his feet. Obviously, Jim had intended to dress as a satyr. Aimery raised one hand slightly and pointed vaguely towards the other man's head, "Pardon, but did you forget your horns?"

"My--?" Jim raises his hands, touching his hair. Wait, no, he didn't have horns. He regards Aimery thoughtfully for a moment and then he breaks into a bright grin.

"No, no. It's a horse. It's supposed to be." He gestures at himself. "See, it's meant to be a two-person costume, but," and he lets out a tiny sigh, "there's only me."

"Oh. Oh I see," Aimery answered, grinning back after a moment, "That's certainly a flattering idea for a costume."

At least, more flattering than a satyr costume would've been, because even if 'horse's back end' was meant to be self-commentary, it was at least self-depreciating commentary.

Jim bows slightly at the waist, grinning. "Thank you. I'm sure it would be more flattering with the rest of the horse, but what am I gonna do?"

He offers a hand and a bright smile. "Jim Kirk."

"Bribe a friend to dress as the front half?" Aimery suggested as he took the offered hand and gave it a good shake before letting go. "I'm Aimery le Gode. It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Kirk."

There was a slight hesitation as he said that; there was something familiar about the name, a vague recollection of a similar, perhaps older face to go with it. It wasn't a new feeling, that not-quite-remembering, but it's frequency had waned a lot the longer he spent in the city. It was probably nothing, but just in case, he tilted his head slightly and asked, "We've not met before, have we?"
