Costume Party in Honor of Lex Luthor's Birthday [OPEN]

As stated on the invitation, Adrian is throwing a costume party to celebrate Lex's twenty-fifth birthday at the Luthor-Veidt Building in Brock Marsh. Everyone is welcome, whether they know Lex or not. There's plenty of food and free alcohol (mostly wine, fancy beer, and champagne), music and a space for dancing, and room to mingle and make new friends. Some simple and classy decorations, purple of course, have been put up on the first and second floors to create a festive atmosphere.

(A note to those who might try to take the opportunity to go snooping: security is insanely tight. The elevators will not go beyond the first and second floors without a special code, and there's an elevator operator who is very obviously there to make sure you don't try anything funny. The stairwells are likewise under guard and the private areas of the first floor are locked and under camera surveillance.)

[ooc: Please wait until a few threads are set up before tagging! Party time! Everyone is welcome!

Note: I've turned off notifs so if you need my attention in a specific spot, please PM or plurk me.]

"How considerate, thank you" for both the cupcake and not lighting the candle. He doesn't mime blowing out the fire, that's just silly, but Lex does pluck the candle out of the cupcake and hand it to Aimery. He's in charge of the cleanup after all.

Lex sets down his drink and begins peeling away the outer wrapper of the cupcake. He didn't mind eating on his own, it was his birthday, he could do as he pleased anyway. "Is this one of the cupcakes from the bakery?" He knew very little of how much planning had gone into the party.

Aimery made a little mmhmm noise and a short nod in answer to the thanks as he took the candle. He eyed it a moment, considering, then sticks the end in his mouth to quickly suck off the icing before casually tucking it into the wrist of his glove to be properly discarded later. The gesture wasn't meant to be flirtatious, but why waste delicious icing? "No that's one I made. I'd have brought one for myself too, but I ran out of hands."

He shrugged then looked on with curious anticipation, waiting to see what Lex thought of the cupcake. It wasn't a cupcake really, not exactly, more like a sweet, soft, cupcake-shaped cookie, lilac in color (because it was his first time using food coloring and he didn't want to overdo it) and flavored with a hint of rosewater and nutmeg. The thin icing was little more than thickened honey and more rosewater, hence why he loved it so. Aimery held up a hand, "If you don't like it, that's fine, I can fetch you another kind."

Honey isn't one of Lex's favorite tastes, but the moderate amount of icing coupled with the pleasant flavor is quite nice. He doesn't speak again until he's finished eating, expertly licking away the crumbs from his hands and cleaning his fingers. The abundance of cake at the party was a correct choice, Lex had quite the sweet tooth.

If the rate at which Lex ate the cake wasn't indication enough, the reach for Aimery's shoulder is and Lex gives it a friendly squeeze. "I hope you set some of those aside in the kitchen that I can have later, that was very good." A smile. "I especially appreciate the color."

While Lex enjoyed the cupcake, Aimery sipped at his champagne and watched the crowd, glancing at Lex occasionally and not bothering to look anything but pleased, then almost smug when Lex licked his fingers. It was that good, hm? He'd been nervous about his adaptation of the recipe, but in retrospect perhaps he should've made a big batch of them instead of half a dozen.

"I'm glad you enjoyed it. There's a few more set out with the rest of the cakes, but I can always make more later- it's a very simple recipe and needn't be a birthday-only treat." There was a wavering in his confidence at mention of the color: "I'd intended the purple to be bolder, I'll add a bit more color next time."

"I wouldn't have known you intended it to be bolder if you didn't tell me," Lex says as a means of reassurance. "I don't imagine there will be any left by the time the party is over if there are so few, but that's a credit to the chef isn't it?"

He's not going to bring up the subject of Lionel, not here. "You've done a fantastic job planning this party, Aimery, you should know that. I hope you've been able to enjoy your handiwork."

"True. I'll make more soon," Aimery agreed, already thinking of how to scale it up into a proper cake. And next time? Next time it would be royal purple, unless he stumbled into warnings about the effects that foodcoloring had on a person's digestive system.

"To be fair just as much is Adrian's handwork, but I'll accept credit for making it 'fantastic' if you like," he flashed a cheeky grin, then softened his smile and shook his head, "As for me, well, I'm enjoying it now. Most who are coming have already arrived, so I've time to have a drink with a friend in celebration of his birthday."

He held up his glass, tilting it towards Lex in a belated toast.

Lex lifted his own glass in return. It was odd toasting his own birthday, but there was no way he would turn down a celebration of himself. "To celebrations," he says before taking a sip and granting his butler a smile.

The shift toward casualness doesn't go unnoticed and Lex's voice is back to being as dry as ever. "You and Mr. Veidt are on a first name basis now I see."

The dryness caught Aimery off guard a little, coming after a smile. Then the cause of it was clear- oops. He cut his long swig of champagne short to explain.

"Not really, that's a slip of the tongue while off duty and..." he tipped his glass again to signify that he'd been drinking, if somehow that wasn't abundantly clear. Surely a man was allowed to accidentally refer to his employer by his given name under such circumstances. After all, he called Lex Lex from time to time... though that was markedly different. He shrugged, hoping to play it off as no matter, "Did you know he helped me with my costume? It's thanks to him I now know the name of the fellow I'm dressed as."

"I would make certain it was alright with Mr. Veidt before you address him as such in person," Lex makes certain to point out the potential error before moving on to Aimery's subject change.

Lex has known of Adrian's dual identity for quite a while now but he'll play along, especially since he's been entrusted to keep this secret. "Oh really?" Faked but rather genuine sounding mild surprise goes here. "I've been wondering about Baedal's own masked hero. What's he called?"
goodeintentions: ({ Ooooh.)

[personal profile] goodeintentions 2011-10-09 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
He nodded at Lex's helpful, corrective suggestion, despite having less than zero intention of asking. He'd just not call him Adrian at all. Veidt wasn't as easy to relax around as Lex was, though it wasn't like he'd had much opportunity until that night- too proper and didn't drink near enough to be fun.

"Ozymandias. Apparently Mr. Veidt," see how he did that, Lex, "heard some rumor about him and passed it along. The name sounds Saracen, I know, but he didn't seem Saracen when I met him. I think he had hair lighter than mine," Aimery gestured vaguely toward his head for emphasis, "so it's likely a coincidence."
