Costume Party in Honor of Lex Luthor's Birthday [OPEN]

As stated on the invitation, Adrian is throwing a costume party to celebrate Lex's twenty-fifth birthday at the Luthor-Veidt Building in Brock Marsh. Everyone is welcome, whether they know Lex or not. There's plenty of food and free alcohol (mostly wine, fancy beer, and champagne), music and a space for dancing, and room to mingle and make new friends. Some simple and classy decorations, purple of course, have been put up on the first and second floors to create a festive atmosphere.

(A note to those who might try to take the opportunity to go snooping: security is insanely tight. The elevators will not go beyond the first and second floors without a special code, and there's an elevator operator who is very obviously there to make sure you don't try anything funny. The stairwells are likewise under guard and the private areas of the first floor are locked and under camera surveillance.)

[ooc: Please wait until a few threads are set up before tagging! Party time! Everyone is welcome!

Note: I've turned off notifs so if you need my attention in a specific spot, please PM or plurk me.]

That's the wonderful thing about a faerie's natural charisma; even in the awkward adjustment back to socializing after captivity, Ilde's more or less carried through by the fact she can't quite help but be, as it were, 'socially ept'. It helps.

Case in point: "Fairy godmother?" she guesses, friendly enough for being a quieter than she was at the last party in Baedal she attended. Her own costume is fairly clearly evocative to anyone familiar with Disney after 1950, which might account for the direction of her guess - that and the idea of other people dressing up as fairies entertains her, quietly.

She turns at the sound of the voice, before glancing down at herself and shaking her head. "Good witch, actually. Though I agree that fairy godmother would have been equally poofy."

Glinda the Good Witch, to be more precise, but she's not sure if The Wizard of Oz translates into all universes.

It's smart not to make the assumptions, here; Ilde's accent telegraphs more or less 'upmarket British socialite', but when she laughs around, "Glinda," in pleased agreement, it's a burbling, watery, inhuman sound that's a little odd the first time you hear it.

Sometimes the similarities only serve to underscore the differences.

"Exactly!" she grins, and the laughter makes her tip her head a bit, but she doesn't call attention to it. She has a feeling that it's not how things are done around here. "I figured it'd be a nice change up from my usual Joan of Arc look."

With a contemplative sort of air, Ilde agrees, "Less armour." ...well, Joan of Arc.

"Less armor, less pointy sharp things -- more girly!" She shrugs. "Sometimes it's nice to remember that I am, in fact, a girl."

"Sharp things aren't feminine?" Ilde cocks an eyebrow, considering this for a moment. "I think that's a matter of perspective."

"Not all sharp things, I'll give you that. But in my experience, while people may think the warrior girl look is hot? In practice, not so much."

"Well, that's..." Not quite what she meant, and there's a hint of dubiousness about Ilde's expression - maybe Buffy is doing it wrong? - but she shrugs, after a moment, letting it go. "If you say so."

It's highly possible that Buffy is doing it wrong. She tends to fail at the softer side of being a girl, more often than not. She's been warrior girl for far too long.

She turned for a moment, looking at the costume, before hazarding a guess of her own. "I'm guessing Disney?"

Ilde tends to feel that the two aren't mutually exclusive - or, much of the time, even separate - but they're women with two very different perspectives in general. Regardless of that, she does a little turn for Buffy and confirms, "Cinderella," as she's settling again, lifting the hem of her gown so the glass slippers are briefly visible. Besides the impulse to do something ridiculous with Cindy, this costume was largely built around the fact that Ilde just wanted these shoes when she saw them in the store. "Cynthia and I came as blonde and brunette versions."

They may not be mutually exclusive, but Buffy thinks that she never really managed to find the balance. There is too much of her that is all Slayer, all the time, and she's just learning how to be Buffy again. It's going to take her a while to get there.

"Nice," Buffy says with a grin. "I probably should have tracked down someone for the Wicked Witch, but ... I haven't picked up that many friends yet."
