Costume Party in Honor of Lex Luthor's Birthday [OPEN]

As stated on the invitation, Adrian is throwing a costume party to celebrate Lex's twenty-fifth birthday at the Luthor-Veidt Building in Brock Marsh. Everyone is welcome, whether they know Lex or not. There's plenty of food and free alcohol (mostly wine, fancy beer, and champagne), music and a space for dancing, and room to mingle and make new friends. Some simple and classy decorations, purple of course, have been put up on the first and second floors to create a festive atmosphere.

(A note to those who might try to take the opportunity to go snooping: security is insanely tight. The elevators will not go beyond the first and second floors without a special code, and there's an elevator operator who is very obviously there to make sure you don't try anything funny. The stairwells are likewise under guard and the private areas of the first floor are locked and under camera surveillance.)

[ooc: Please wait until a few threads are set up before tagging! Party time! Everyone is welcome!

Note: I've turned off notifs so if you need my attention in a specific spot, please PM or plurk me.]

Erik hasn't even bothered to wear the little throwaway domino mask properly, opting instead to hold it up to his eyes on the way past the party's gatekeeper, a distinctly tolerant air about him. As ever, he stands tall and narrow, dressed tonight in a slim grey suit without a tie, and looking kind of intense purely by default.

He too makes a beeline for the bar, for...reasons. The mask's new home is the first table he happens to pass.

Raven isn't headed for the bar, she's headed for the dance floor, although she notes what direction the two men go in first. She also notices Erik dispose of his mask, and makes a mental note to do something about that later.

Once they both reach the bar, Charles pours himself a glass of champagne. He pours one for Erik as well, but holds both glasses away and out of his friend's reach. "That was rather unceremonious of you," he chides before holding out the glass intended for Erik in offering.

Erik is resolutely silent, wearing that enigmatic almost-smile of his; he even waits a beat before taking the champagne flute from his friend. "Yes mother," he says finally, enunciating especially clearly, and clinks their glasses smartly together. Ting! Check yourself, shorty!

If Erik didn't accept the flute then Charles would have taken it for himself, there's no need to be wasteful. He tilts the glass toward his friend in a toast before taking a sip and looking around the room. "I suppose this means dancing is out of the question for you as well."

Needless to say, the sip he takes is considerably longer. It can scarcely be called a sip, really.

"I hope you're not implying that I would need to be wearing a mask to convince someone to dance."

Gosh, Erik, the champagne isn't going anywhere.

"Of course not, you have no reason to hide. I was merely thinking that if you were so resistant to parties you would feel the same about the festivities that go with them."

Actually, it is. It is going in his mouth.

"Well, you'll have to forgive me for not feeling very festive. Abduction tends to put a bit of a damper on my mood."

[identity profile] cerebric.livejournal.com 2011-10-03 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"This isn't a celebration of being abducted, Erik. People have every right to celebrate their birthdays.

He sighs. "If it's truly that upsetting for you, I won't make you stay."

He affects a little chuckle, more a few annoyed puffs of breath than anything. Just before another sip: "I see the thought reform is progressing nicely, congratulations." If Stockholm syndrome weren't coined in the 70s he would've said that instead.

"And accepting a drink of your own makes you quite the rebel," Charles says with a lift of the eyebrow that suggests he's not going to accept being insulted much longer if his friend keeps this up.

Attaboy, Chuck, don't take his cheeky remarks lying down. Or, well, you could, but that would be boring. (Or a different kind of scene altogether, really.)

"I'll drink their champagne, but I don't have to enjoy it." Because he hates it, clearly.
