my life is trapped in these lines, that's why i'm packing these nines

Who: Princess Nuala, Integra Hellsing, and everyone who's made an appointment for a job interview at Hellsing.
What: Job interviews.
Where: Hellsing Guild Hall, Sobek Croix.
When: Various times after this post.
Notes: If your character has an interview just start a new thread! You may get Integra, you may get Nuala, you may get both. If you have a preference, say so in your subject line or harass one of us, we are easy to find.
Warnings: Bureaucracy?

In the midst of rising tension in the city, Hellsing is busier than usual. New blood (ha, hah) is always welcome, but especially so these days. The guild hall is perhaps oddly quiet, though it's only because most agents are out on cases. Those with appointments will be seen promptly.

The sudden appearance of the woman he'd spoken to earlier startles him, and he can't help a slight jerk of surprise and a brief widening of his eyes that he can't entirely cover up. "It's a pleasure to meet you in person, Sir Hellsing," he replies, taking her hand and shaking it firmly. (Jim's done his research, and he's benefited.) "Thank you." He sits, careful to maintain his good posture and professional bearing.

At her question, he nods. "That's right, Sir. Sir Martel was kind enough to open his home to Captain Kirk and myself shortly after our arrival, and he's been an excellent host." He hopes she likes Martel and that he hasn't just blown his job interview by gushing about him to his worst enemy or something.

"No, sir, not as such." He hesitates for a moment before admitting, "I'm afraid the closest I ever got was going into a 'haunted house' when I was younger, and one of my companions claimed she saw a door open and shut by itself. I understand, however, that that's mostly what you deal with here, and I adapt very quickly to new scenarios."

His eyebrows lift slightly, but he doesn't look frightened, just more focused, ad he leans forward. "Latent conditions? I'm presuming you mean the typical psychological conditions that come from stressful work as well as things more supernatural in origin?" Both can be shocking, but he figure it can't be anything worse than what he worked with in the aftermath of the Narada - and if it is, he'll figure out how to deal with it.

Clearly, McCoy is going to need to do some heavy research before he can be can be of real use to Hellsing. He's making rapid mental notes: blood conditions, allergies to iron, how to best treat a werewolf bite. Allergies are nothing new (God knows the crew on the Enterprise is, collectively, allergic to everything), but a sudden one, and to something as common as iron, sounds like it can be deadly.

"That's fine, sir. In addition to having a small medical kit from my time, I've studied twentieth- and twenty-first century medicinal practices extensively, which is, I understand, the rough equivalent to the level of technology here."

He decides not to think about dealing with vampires right now.

"I am very interested in working with you still," he promises her, and he is. This is a challenge, and though he'll kvetch and whine and moan about it, he doesn't back down from a challenge - especially not one that Jim apparently gave him a 'glowing recommendation' for. "I appreciate the offer of your supervision, and I'd also like some time to do some research on the more supernatural things I'll be dealing with, if that is acceptable to you."

"I'm a doctor, Sir Hellsing. I never expect things to be 'fantastic.'" He shakes his head. "It's a bonus when it is, but that's all."

"I suspect we are using fantastic to connote 'of fantasy' in this particular instance, Dr McCoy."

The wry, oddly-accented voice belongs to one Princess Nuala, joining them as Integra had said she would. Even among her own people she is mythic, and there's more than a hint of that in the frankly otherworldly nature of her as she comes to sit, setting down the slim folder she brings with her on the table. The hints of normalcy - the blouse and skirt wouldn't be out of place on some modest human woman, the folder itself - almost serve to underscore how much she isn't as they are, incongruities upon her person.

She is wholly of Earth, tied to its nature in ways profound and beyond explanation, but she is something else entirely.

"Good day. Sir Hellsing asked if I might join this interview to discuss our xenian requirements with you."

McCoy rises to his feet as well, and though he's surprised by Nuala's appearance (in more ways than one), it doesn't register on his face beyond a slight flicker in his eyes. She's not human, to be certain. What she is, though, he's not sure.

"A pleasure to meet you, Princess," he greets her, bowing slightly. Once both women have regained their seats, he does as well.

"And you, doctor." Settling with a small smile, she folds her hands over the file she brought with her and considers him for a moment, glancing once at Integra. "I understand that you're familiar with...'xenobiology'; what concerns me is your ability to cope with the necessity of magic and its effects being associated with the treatment of some of our employees. I understand that men of science often find such things...challenging."

(Her tone suggests this is a flaw, but a forgiveable one that must simply be overcome.)

McCoy spreads his hands. "In my experience, Princess, 'magic' is most often science that hasn't been explained yet - but I've already seen a lot of things since coming here that I could never explain with science, so I'm willing to learn whatever I can to help those in need here, whatever that may mean."
cailisairgid: (you became soft fire.)

"An understandable attitude, and I have seen my share of credulous humans create explanations for what is simply beyond their present comprehension," Nuala inclines her head, "and I am merely concerned that you don't allow yourself to be limited only by your experience." Her frankness is important, she feels; they'll better be able to work to avoid these things if they're honest and straightforward about what's necessary, and her intention is clearly to achieve that and not to insult him.

"There will be times when one of our mages will be required to assist you- when you will need to work in tandem, in some way- and it's important that you'll be able to adapt to this. We have great respect for your ability as a doctor; that you give the same respect will be a good place to begin."

"As long as the people I'm working with are good at what they do, I will respect them," McCoy replies, which is entirely honest. He might not like them, he might avoid them like the plague outside of work, but he'll respect the hell out of what they can do and he'll never let that cross into professional territory. "I may not understand it, but I'll respect it."
