It's like paradise, spread out with a butter knife :: [OPEN]

Who: EVERYONE
What: Réjean has decided that more people ought to celebrate and help raise a bit of dosh for one of his favourite bars. See: flyer.
Where: The Apache.
When: Misdi night and into the wee hours of the morning.
Warnings: Discussion of Pickman's manky feet.

The Apache is much the same as it always is: dimly lit, with the jukebox playing in the background, and the bartender serving whatever's on tap. Tonight, the bar is packed with people from all across the city, different cantons and cohorts, all out to celebrate surviving the fungal plague. Patrons are encouraged to buy tickets for a door prize with the proceeds going to repair the damage tunnelling ants made to the cellar.

"Kids, meanin' progeny, anyway, they're like-" he gestures, helpfully- "Huge. Totally nuts." It's so domestic, but it's really not; nothing will ever be truly domestic or normal for people like them. He likes the strange attempts they make, though. It feels like somebody gives a damn.

"Let's sit down for a bit, no? Tell me what you been up to."

It's kind of hard to imagine Remy with children, but easier to see him with grown ones -- she remembers him wrangling the 'youngsters' back in the City.

"All right," she agrees, with a shrug, grabbing them a recently-deserted table. "Though it's not all that exciting, honestly. I can't really remember for sure what was going on when I saw you last. Um...I guess you didn't know that Jack went back to New York?"

He's good with kids, so long as he has someone more stable to balance him. He'll help with homework, but he's also the crazy one who lets you stay up late and eat ice cream; with kids who are also future super heroes, stuff like that can get interesting.

"I dunno, he kinda flaked out and vanished," Remy tells her, plunking down and making sure he can see the whole of the bar with ease. He doesn't sound too terribly bothered - he and Jack were close, but Remy's loyalties will always be on a curve; Jack was neither a mutant, nor female. "I had stuff at home goin' on, for a while. I actually got locked out of the multiverse for like a month." As casually as he delivers that, it can't be anything flippant - he'd have been cut off from Wanda and their household.

Tosh is pretty sure she'd be awesome with kids, so long as no one minded that she'd let them play with sharp objects and electricity.

"He went back to his restaurant. It was only right, I mean that was his dream. I just didn't dare go with him." She recognizes the hardship that must have been involved for Remy to be away from his loved ones for that long (she thinks it might feel something like the weeks that always followed putting Tommy back into the freezer, until Tommy was gone for good), and reaches for Remy's arm. "You made it back, though. And it sounds like you all made it here together. That's what counts. You survived."

There are other things a person can survive besides physical harm, after all.

"Survival's an old trick at this point," he says, laughing. Good lord, he's even TRIED REALLY HARD to die on a number of occasions - once he even got his soul dragged back kicking and screaming. He's given up paying attention to mortality.

"How'd you do, with all this crazy shit up in here lately?"

The laughter makes Tosh smile, even knowing that there's probably a little bitterness hidden there underneath. There comes a point, she figures, when you realize you've stopped caring, that you've either been dead already or close enough to feel it, and being afraid of it just isn't worth the energy anymore.

The fact that she can think in terms of 'been dead already' and know that Remy would understand says a lot about why can pick up where they left off, after all this time.

"Got here in the middle of the monkeys and crows thing and got really comfortable with a shotgun. I spent this last one tucked away in Hellsing headquarters, though. You were probably right out there in the thick of it all, right?"

"I missed all that," he admits. "I went out for the ant spore thing, though. Not sure 'bout the whole gods situation yet, but it's somethin' to look into. Least they seem to be interested in keepin' people goin' versus torturing us, no?" He takes a drink. "How's Hellsing?"

"A lot of the people I know did." She raises one shoulder in answer to the remark about 'gods'. "You know my feelings on it. I've never run across a single bit of evidence of all-powerful beings that didn't turn out to be aliens playing at mysticism, or being miscast in that role by people who don't know better." And until present with evidence to the contrary, that's exactly how she'll continue to think.

"I like working there! It's interesting to work for women for a change. And considering how difficult it is to scrounge up modern technology here, I'm grateful for a job that lets me work with what's available. And...it's nice to be back in the game."

"S'always aliens." Or mutants, but he doesn't say it; mentioning things like my girlfriend is more powerful than the Biblical God tends to weird people out. Wanda, Jean... hell, that kid Nate. Ororo, for fuck's sake. (Even him. New Sun...)

Skeptical doesn't quite cut it.

"Huh." It's hard to tell, but his opinion is actually a little shifted, knowing it's run by women. "Long as it's good for you. Seems like this place needs the help though, with the Militia and all."
