It's like paradise, spread out with a butter knife :: [OPEN]

Who: EVERYONE
What: Réjean has decided that more people ought to celebrate and help raise a bit of dosh for one of his favourite bars. See: flyer.
Where: The Apache.
When: Misdi night and into the wee hours of the morning.
Warnings: Discussion of Pickman's manky feet.

The Apache is much the same as it always is: dimly lit, with the jukebox playing in the background, and the bartender serving whatever's on tap. Tonight, the bar is packed with people from all across the city, different cantons and cohorts, all out to celebrate surviving the fungal plague. Patrons are encouraged to buy tickets for a door prize with the proceeds going to repair the damage tunnelling ants made to the cellar.

"Thanks. They took a bit of work." Njoki is both pleased and proud of her scarification. It took months to finish and it's an extensive piece of work. "You have any mod work done?"

Jack shakes his head. "Nope. I was in the Agency, and then...well." He smiles secretly. "Guess I've just lost the opportunity by now."

"Uh-huh." Agency? Njoki doesn't know what he's talking about or why he's being coy. It's a bit off-putting, but she shrugs it off and continues dryly, "You can always get a temp tattoo."

Jack looks to her, surprised at the suggestion, before smiling. "You're right. I could. ...I don't know what of, though. It's been a long time since getting a real one was even possible."

"Why wouldn't 'getting a real one' not be possible for you?" She recognizes the coat as some sort of military cut, but doesn't understand why it's not an option for him.

Jack shrugs mysteriously. "Let's just say that I'm kind of stuck in a rut that I'll probably never get a chance to break." He turns to her with a smile. "It looks good on you, though. Must've been quite a process."

"Let's just say," she parrots back at him with a faintly incredulous expression. "You've got to be shitting me. Does the whole international man of vaguely-hinted-at-mystery actually work?"

Njoki is often straightforward to the point of bluntness. If someone has a secret, then they ought to keep it, not drop hints with a wink and a smile.

"Usually," Jack says, with a smile and a shrug. "People keep on guessing, wanting more, I get to buy them a drink, and y'know. Things go on from there. Speaking of..." he says, turning to her. "D'you want anything? We are at a bar, after all." He adds, after a moment, "It'd be my treat."

"No, I'm good for now, but thanks." While Njoki might've been heading towards the bar, she's experienced enough not to accept a drink in the middle of this conversation. It's a gentler rebuff than saying she does want something and will pay for her own, please and thank you.

"I guess I'm just a bit too dull for that sort of guessing game."

Jack shrugs. "Not dull, no." He can tell that being a little mysterious got them on the wrong foot a little, and he wants to make up for that. She's one of the few acquaintances he's made in the city, and he'd rather get to know her better, not push her away.

"I...kind of heal really fast," he explains. "Restore to factory defaults, I guess you could say. It means that things like scars and tattoos don't stick." He shrugs again.
