Bite they little heads off! Nibble on they tiny feet!

The Apache is much the same as it always is: dimly lit, with the jukebox playing in the background, and the bartender serving whatever's on tap. Above the doorway and wound through a few of the sets of antlers some enterprising soul has placed a garland decorated with little blue and green fish.

Though he has indeed as he said never seen It's a Wonderful Life, John is aware of some of the plot elements, and is actually a bit more reluctant to sit down and watch than he indicated to Kate. On the other hand, he really only likes watching movies if it's with other people, and except for his few years at Xavier's, he's never had the time or opportunity to do so, let alone with someone he's interested in. It provides an easy conversation topic during (unless Kate is one of those people who doesn't like others to talk) and after. He just hopes he doesn't have to talk about his family or anything. Maybe he'll make something up.

Once it's clear the movie's about to start, he glances over at Kate, the probable entire reason for having dressed... 'nicely', as in, comparatively nicely, as in, a shirt with buttons. But he's learned his lesson from the bar. Shaving just makes him look fifteen. So he's just got that look that turns any effort regarding clothing into a Some Dude look.

"You're still interested, right? I think I might need another drink," he deadpans. "Or pie or something, you want any?"

Camped out on the closest sofa with a mug of hot chocolate and far too many marshmallows, Kate eyes John warily when he asks her that question. Of course she's still interested. When's the last time any of them had a moment to just breathe? To relax, watch a cheesy movie with some friends and not worry about anything but if there'll still be onion rings later? Besides, the movie is a good enough excuse for her to hang out with him without anybody question motives and suchlike. It's not a date nor is there any of the pressure of a date hanging over either one of them, even though she did put a little more effort in her outfit tonight, complete with the requisite lilac perfume she always wore back home. It's just two people who know each other at a holiday party. Nothing more, nothing less.

At least right now.

"Yes. Yes, I am," she throws back, setting her cup down on a nearby table. "I'm going to guess you're not?" Kate's not going to force him to stick around, but she'll be a bit disappointed if he left.

"Nah, I am. You want anything before it starts?" John clarifies, eyeing the crowded bar and then adding in that same deadpan, "Maybe send help if I'm not back in five."

He hasn't been thinking of this as a date, because, well, it's not. But it'd be a decent way of figuring out if they have anything more in common, or if there are any wildly disparate views or something. He liked what she'd said in the library, and he's sure she's at least somewhat okay with mutants, so she seems to be potential friend material.

"I'm fine," Kate assures him, pointing to her hot chocolate. "I already ate so I'm good to go for another couple of hours or however long this movie is again."

The only wildly disparate views she has from him is that little Magneto fanboy status John has. She'll never agree with him on that, even if Erik is the grandfather of her closest friends. As far as being okay with mutants, look at who she hangs out with and fought for. If Kate had any problems with them in general, then it's too late for that now.

"I'll tell them to hold off on pressing play until you get back."

Despite still being technically grounded, and furthermore spending his remaining sentence wrapped securely in the arms of his boyfriend - which probably made said grounding more enjoyable than it should have been, but oh well, he's not pointing that out - Billy has not only made it to the party and taken the opportunity to watch It's A Wonderful Life with Captain America, but has managed to secure a strategically positioned sofa to be able to see Kate from.

And her possible date.

The possible nature of which he'd like to clear up, but mostly he's just giving John several suspicious cat looks and observing the situation. For now.

"Eh, don't make 'em do that, I won't take long." He assures her, and on his way to refill his drink, he passes Billy and the timing is such that there's a totally awkward moment of eye contact, during which he realizes hey, that guy was looking at him. It's the guy he saw Remy with at the protest, even. Hmm. But John doesn't say anything to Billy at that time, and he is, as promised, very quick, because he doesn't even try getting through to the bar, he just (once he's somewhat out of sight) steals someone else's, which is a great way to get some kind of disease but that did not even make him hesitate.

On his way back, he nods casually at Billy, but sits next to Kate without any comment.

For the moment (which probably won't last very long), Kate doesn't notice Billy on his little mini-patrol. She's still under the assumption that he and Teddy are off in a corner somewhere basically attached to each other at the hip and other body parts. If and when she finds out that they've been secretly judging her activities tonight, well, somebody won't be too pleased.

"Welcome back." She greets John with a genuine smile as she holds out her mug to clink with his glass. "They haven't started yet. They're probably trying to explain what a DVD is to Steve anyway. That'll take a while."

Teddy is indeed attached to Billy's hip, one arm draped around his boyfriend's shoulders and sitting close enough that someone would have to be blind to not be able to tell they were close in that way. It's half to make sure Billy doesn't get into anymore trouble because trouble just seems to like following Billy lately and also because he has six months to make up for, even if it wasn't his fault he hadn't been around.

He notices the way Billy looks at the guy who passes them, notices how he's sitting with Kate. He just raises an eyebrow silently at Billy for an explanation for why he's watching him so intently.

Oh damn, that awkward moment of eye contact means he's totally busted. He quickly turns away and burrows himself up against Teddy's side. He really did miss having the reassuring and fairly constant presence of his boyfriend warm against his side, and he's not going to let his curiousity about just what kind of a possible boyfriend Kate has found herself distract him from that too much.

And he shrugs at Teddy's questioning look, leaning in to whisper. "Wondering if they're on a date or just friends, T."

Party aside, John might start feeling paranoid if there were no connection between staring dude and Remy, but there is, so there's most likely no reason to worry. Besides, staring dude seems to be fairly preoccupied.

It takes him a moment to work out what bothers him in Kate's comment about 'Steve'. People without various levels of familiarity with 20th century technology are pretty common in Baedal, but he presumes the only people who want to watch It's A Wonderful Life are people who at least know what it is.

"He from, uh, earlier times too?"

"Yeah. From around World War II or so." A few years pre-It's A Wonderful Life and a ton more pre-anything nearing decent technology in Kate's eyes. But explaining new fangled gadgets to Steve will take forever and tonight is not a night for that anyway.

In a moment of randomness, Kate glances over her shoulder, finally spotting Teddy and Billy snuggled up on another couch. Cute. They deserve a little happiness and Kate can't help but smile softly at the scene, though on another note, jealousy has never been her style, but underneath the happy expression, there is a bit of envy running through her from missing her own family and even Eli. She's only human.

"Is it bad if it is a date...?" Teddy says quietly back.

He catches Kate glancing at them and gives a smile and a lift of a hand in return, then points at John at a moment when he's not looking but Kate still is and silently raises an eyebrow questioningly at her this time.

"It is totally bad." Tommy appears behind Teddy and Billy in a flash, leaning over with his arms around their shoulders and muttering darkly. "He is so not good enough for her. Also, a jerk."

He purses his lips and huffs in the other couple's general direction, looking very much like a jealous toddler as he does so.

"Well, at least the yard stick for Kate's decisions in dating has decided to show up." Billy can't help smirking a little as he says that. He says it affectionately, okay, Tommy you are such a bad decision in dating don't even try to deny it.

"I don't know, do we have concrete proof that he's a jerk? Or not a jerk, as the case may be? We should check him out, if he's going to be our leader's boyfriend, that's all I'm saying."

His attention preoccupied with this Steve, Person of Interest from Roughly Magneto's Era, John fails to notice the peanut gallery they've attracted. Which surely, Magneto would gently chide him for! But it's a party so fuck off shoulder Magneto.

He does, after a moment, follow her glance to Billy and Teddy and now Tommy. QUICK GUYS LOOK LIKE YOU WEREN'T TALKING ABOUT HIM.

Kate, for the record, hasn't moved from staring back at Teddy and Billy and then suddenly Tommy. She was fine with Billy and Teddy looking at her, but with Tommy there, she quickly realizes that they aren't just looking around while the movie starts. They're peeping, spying, stalking, and badly, by the way. You'd think that none of them have any experience in patrolling without being seen.

Oh, man. The embarrassment. Really, Kate should be used to the boys acting up like this, but she always holds onto the slim hope that maybe one day they'll just stop and behave themselves. But that day is not today and all she can do is eyes them warily, silently mouthing, "What?" in their direction. Please don't let them assume this is something more than what it is.

"Maybe we should do the investigating during a time when Kate isn't right next to him...? Come on guys, we're in the same building, and besides, it's Kate. Need I say more? She's more than capable of handling one guy by herself. Let's just relax and have fun," Teddy encourages. "If he tries anything, we can see it from here."

Tommy waves cheerily in Kate's general direction, looking about as innocent as a cat being rescued from the fishbowl. (Hungry? Oh no, I was just saying hello to my fine aquatic friend!)

He hisses out the side of his mouth, "But if we aren't watching, then we won't see! C'mon." and before anyone can reply, he is up in Kate and John's space, greeting them at super-speed with a grin that is far too wide.

"Hey! Hi! What's going on and can I just say that your dress is awesome, Kate?"

Run. Run while you still can.
