pour myself a cup of ambition :: OPEN

It's during the beginning of a new cohort that Akalamdug finds himself working longest hours. While that means he ends up spending a little more time away from his kids than he'd like, it's worth it to help newcomers settle in to a job and thereby ease some of their worries about how they'll adjust to Baedal.

With the kettle on and a plate of biscuits at the ready, Akal opens the door to his office in the Valhalla Inn.

"Thus far, yes. Oh, thank you." He navigates the small office carefully, so as to not knock anything over with his tail. He does help himself to some tea, and turns the chair sideways before he sits.

"Akal, pleased to meet you. My name is Jysiri." He glances from the pictures, to the fellow, and cants his head. "Your family is here in the city with you, I hope?"

"Ah! That's good." He doesn't know anything about the social status, but it has to be a heck of a lot disorienting, that way.

He sips his tea. "I'm doing well enough, though to my knowledge, there aren't any other of my kind here. The humans I've spoken with have been polite."

((sorry, that should have been 'heck of a lot less disorienting. Derp. Oh well...))

"Perhaps so." He frowns a little, in thought, but quickly perks up again.

"I am a jeweler. I have... limited examples of my work, at the moment, but, not counting my early education and apprenticeship, I have fifty-two years of experience." It isn't a lie, though he wishes he could elaborate on the time taken away from his art for the work for his order. He can't risk getting stuck in that situation, again. "I've run my own business," he says, in concession, "but have not been in the position to do so over all that time."

"I haven't yet been to the Howl Barrow, though I have explored, a little." He continues to smile. "And I'll be able to explore more, and speak with the guild. Presumably, they're the ones I need to show my work? How does the city handle placing craftsmen?"

"I also have experience working with glass and clay," Jysiri says, matter-of-fact. "And with reused materials. There's not a shortage of metal, back home, but many objects come to us from elsewhere. I'm rather interested in making the best of limited materials."

He considers the information. "That makes good sense. I'd imagine that along with this mentoring -" He doesn't bother to think he'll be ranked any less than that. "- there's assistance with setting up shop, when the time is right. I think I'd be very glad to learn about what materials are available and what's fashionable, though in such a varied place... hm. Are there laws about magic?"

He smiles, pleased and grateful all at once. "I'm sure they will be able to handle my further questions, and yes, that is quite reasonable. Thank you, very much, for your time and your help. I do have one more question, if it's all right." He cants his head and leans forward a little, watching the fellow sort through the paperwork. "The people in this city who handle new arrivals... they're not also responsible for bringing people here, are they? They're simply dealing with the occurrence?"

Then that settles the last of his concerns. Jysiri nods, and thanks the fellow again. He'll follow up on the leads he's given, and, with a little luck, will fall into place soon enough with his new role in this new city.
