St Kelley's is one of the more sedate occasions in Baedal, at least as holidays go. It passes more or less unnoticed by the majority of the population as many of them feel it doesn't concern them. It's not their holiday; it's for the others. Those with severed ties and broken hearts. The temple and church preach that it's a time for reflection or for glorifying the generosity of the gods. It's one of the few days on which no one looks askance at first generation Citizens mourning their missing loved ones publicly.

As night rolls around and floating lanterns are set to sea, the Apache in Mog Hill prepares to accept guests from the newer cohorts. It's something that happens every year, making it a practical tradition. The alcohol will be cheaper for first timers, and the music will be kept at a reasonable level.

...Oh, right, that's McCoy's "what the hell was that" face, with the eyebrows shooting up like that. Great. Where the hell's the bartender?

"Good. She's been a big help to me--and a good influence, believe it or not. Such things are possible." He's still peering at the crowds. "I should have you meet Olivia if she turns up, too. She's from Earth from a while back--federal government law enforcement, but she investigates space/time anomalies. Though I warn you, she might like to pick your brain for technological and scientific information."

"Olivia?" McCoy echoes, glad for the change of subject that isn't how good he looks in a suit, apparently (what the fuck, Jim, why do you do this 'talking' thing with your mouth). "I think I've met her. Pretty, blonde sort of girl?"
captaincocksure: (that's cheating)

Jim will never for the life of him understand how he can make the worst innuendo and most ridiculous ham-handed pickup lines sound so great, but he can say something that's not at all like those things--and is totally factual, by the way, did he say anything that wasn't true?--and it comes out sounding so awkward and desperate and oh god where is the bartender, this is getting to be something of an emergency.

He all but jumps on the change of subject, nodding, smiling. "Sounds like her. Fun, easy to talk to? But could still totally kill you without breaking a sweat? I mean, not that I've tested that, it's just a feeling I get."
aviophobia: (things that suck: dammit jim)

"Yeah, that's her." McCoy nods, also looking down the bar, because this is rapidly becoming a situation that can only be successfully navigated with bourbon. Possibly a double, and unquestionably neat. "Met her at Queequeg's a couple of times. She likes her coffee strong, too."

"That sounds like her too," Jim agrees. "I'm glad you two met. I'm hoping she took my advice and applied at Hellsing."

Finally the bartender arrives. Jim orders vodka, a double. "And he wants a bourbon. Double on that too?"
aviophobia: (things that suck: waiting for an outcome)

"Neat," McCoy confirms, with a nod of thanks to the bartender. "And we'll open a tab." Hell, discounted liquor? He's not missing out on that.
captaincocksure: (heroic)

"A tab. That's an excellent idea." He claps McCoy on the shoulder, grinning. "Knew I was right to bring you along."
