St Kelley's is one of the more sedate occasions in Baedal, at least as holidays go. It passes more or less unnoticed by the majority of the population as many of them feel it doesn't concern them. It's not their holiday; it's for the others. Those with severed ties and broken hearts. The temple and church preach that it's a time for reflection or for glorifying the generosity of the gods. It's one of the few days on which no one looks askance at first generation Citizens mourning their missing loved ones publicly.

As night rolls around and floating lanterns are set to sea, the Apache in Mog Hill prepares to accept guests from the newer cohorts. It's something that happens every year, making it a practical tradition. The alcohol will be cheaper for first timers, and the music will be kept at a reasonable level.

Okay, she didn't expect Megan to be right there and offering beer, but Steph can roll with it, "Sure. Hi, Megan." She smiles, because it's the polite thing to do and because she genuinely does like seeing Megan. Distractions are always good when she's feeling like this, knowing she's powerless to actually do more than send out a little paper boat and pray to gods she doesn't believe in.

The outfit gets a scrutinizing look, "Do you feel the cold?" It's a serious question; considering Megan has wings, Steph doesn't think it's too far fetched that she might be impervious to the cold.

Megan passes over the second beer and clinks hers against it. "Cheers." She believes in the healing power of booze, see.

"Fuck yeah, I'm freezin' my tits off," she says cheerfully -- so she doesn't mind, exactly, it's not comfortable but she's used to it. Most of her shirts are open-backed for her wings and her back is always cold as a result, and she's kind of inoculated herself to wearing hot pants in January in New York, so.

"Cheers," she takes a sip of the beer, and really, this is a big part of why Steph likes Megan. She reminds her of the friends she used to have in high school, without all the stupid bullshit.

"I'd be a perfect gentleman and offer my coat, but..." she waves a hand at Megan's wings, she imagines trying to stick a coat over those would be uncomfortable. "Maybe this will help." The purple scarf she'd been wearing gets unwrapped from around Steph's neck and she uses her free hand to wind it around Megan's instead. It might not help much, but it's better than nothing.

Megan laughs a little too loudly, gestures a little too sloppily -- this is probably not her first substance of the night, alcoholic or otherwise. She's like this sometimes, a little blurry around the edges, more often lately than before, but... looking at her, this looks standard for her. It kind of is. "Well, it matches! Thanks." She pauses a bit to arrange it neatly. "I will have the warmest neck of 'em all."

"I planned ahead," she has a secret magic power and it's to predict people's outfits. Mostly she's just glad that Megan is laughing, even if alcohol is helping; she'd been so sad last time Steph saw her.

"You could wrap it around your stomach, but I'm guessing you wanna show off your belly ring?" She says it without any judgement, while Steph tends to dress pretty conservatively, she understands that sometimes you just need to show everyone your belly ring.

"Yah, figured I've got top abs, everybody oughta look at 'em." Megan doesn't have abs... she's just really skinny, there's no muscle there at all. She just wants everyone to look at her belly. She reaches under her bra and leggings respectively to pull out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, which she sets about sorting out. "And I'm opposed to shirts anyway, I've decided to become a nudist. Dunno why there aren't more of 'em here, you know?"

"I'm sure everyone is really jealous," if Megan doesn't move away, Steph will give her a gentle poke in the stomach to test out those rock hard abs. She laughs a little at where the cigarattes and lighter come from -- life is hard when you don't have pockets.

"I think it might be because it's fucking freezing," It doesn't bother her too much, but hyperbole and an excuse to swear are always fun.

"Quiddit!" she says and slap-flails at Steph's hand, but she laughs; it's play-fighting, not an actual protest. "There's that, yeah. Think we'll see more of 'em during the summer? Are girls allowed to go topless here? It's legal in New York where I'm from, but nobody does it."

"Those are some abs," She sticks her tongue out at Megan and goes in for another poke before relenting. "We might if it warms up, I have no idea what the summer temperatures are like."

"You know, I never thought to check if it was legal in Jersey. But I'm sure I could find out what the rules are in Baedal," she can grab one of the law books from the library during her lunch break, "If it is, I'm sure you could start a trend."

"If it's not, I probably will anyway. Everyone's already seen my tits anyway, not like it's a big deal." No not everybody, but the Vault gets a lot of traffic, especially from people outside of their Cohort, so...

Her lighter and pack get tucked back where they came from and she uses the hand holding her cigarette to gesture as she talks, leaving trails of smoke in the air.

"Well I haven't," she says it with a grin that gets hidden behind the beer can as she takes a drink, "Just be careful not to actually freeze your tits off, I've heard frostbite's a bitch."

She's pretty sure that wouldn't happen, but hey, you can't be too careful.

"Have you got any piercings?" she asks. "It's the worst -- whenever it's cold out, they're the first thing to freeze. And the first thing to heat up when it's hot... I don't like to go out in the snow anymore." Yes thank you for sharing that absolutely vital information, Megan.

"Only these ones," she taps an earlobe with a finger to demonstrate, and gives a sympathetic wince imagining what it must be like with other piercings, "That sounds pretty awful, I'm glad I never got around to getting more done."

She'd considered more, once upon a time, but facial piercings would be too obvious and dangerous considering her night job, and she could never really show off a belly button or nipple piercing.

"Oh, I'd recommend them, for sure," she says. "Just not during the winter." Pffft, like she even minds that much. "You could get more in your ears, though, maybe like, an industrial or something. Those always look pretty badass."

"I don't know if I could pull off a piercing," She can't really explain the actual reasons without telling Megan a lot more than she probably should. "Industrials are the bars, right? I could make one of those work, I do need to look more badass."

She'd have to take it out before patrol, in case she got hit in the ear and it ripped. She's already missing a little chunk off the top of her left ear, including the cartilage (thanks, Black Mask).

"Yeah! On the top of your ears." She waves at her own pointed ones and narrowly avoids setting her hair on fire once again with one of those sweeping, careless gestures. "Or you know, just like... a line of 'em up the lobe. Do a totally 90's thing with a bunch of tiny hoops." Megan you can't just force everyone to dress like it's 1996 again, you were one year old then.

Steph laughs, shaking her head, "I'll get you a needle and an ice cube and I can be your barbie for a day."

It's mostly just a joke, but there's a hint of seriousness. She actually wouldn't be that opposed to giving Megan free reign to stick her ears full of holes; her pain tolerance is pretty high and she could just take them out after a couple of days.

"As long as you haven't had anything to drink beforehand," she feels it's an important addendum to make.

"Nuh uh, don't even -- 'cause I'll, like, totally take you up on that. When I was thirteen a bunch of us pierced each others' belly buttons. At a slumber party. Or, well, it wasn't so much a slumber party as it was one of those 'yeah mum I'm totally spending the weekend at Katie's house, we're not going rolling at all' things. You know, like you do. Anyway the point is, everyone's supposed to be drunk."

No actually that is the opposite of what should happen ever, Megan.

"Oh god," She gives another small laugh, imagining how that went, "Please tell me no one ended up too mortally wounded. I'm definitely retracting my offer, I don't need to end up with a hole in my head instead of my ear."

It's not that she doesn't trust Megan. She just doesn't trust drunk Megan.

"Oh, well, okay, if you're gonna be a chicken," she says, as if -- yes, not wanting a drunk, half-crazy girl menacing you with a needle is unreasonable.

"No, no no no," she pretends to be something between annoyed and horrified, all undercut with clear amusement, "Don't make it a challenge. I can't refuse those."

"Bawk bawk bawk," she says, flapping her arms and her wings in what is apparently an approximation of a four-winged chicken... which she's seen in Baedal, actually, they make the weirdest eggs.

"You are terrible," She reaches over to try to ruffle Megan's hair, as if that will somehow distract her, "I'm gonna end up with an ear that looks like swiss cheese."

She flails and ducks away. "Hey, watch the hair! I put a lot of effort into this!" Megan, you ran a brush through it five minutes ago and didn't bother rebrushing after you flew here. Stop that. "You can make that a new trend, anyway. Just having a bunch of random holes in your ears. Like... lotus ear."

Why.

"Are you going for that artfully tossled look," she settles for flicking the strands of hair that fall near Megan's shoulders.

"I have an idea, I'll let you stick me with a needle if you let me stick you with one," a challenging eyebrow is raised, not that Steph is sure this strategy will even work.
