St Kelley's is one of the more sedate occasions in Baedal, at least as holidays go. It passes more or less unnoticed by the majority of the population as many of them feel it doesn't concern them. It's not their holiday; it's for the others. Those with severed ties and broken hearts. The temple and church preach that it's a time for reflection or for glorifying the generosity of the gods. It's one of the few days on which no one looks askance at first generation Citizens mourning their missing loved ones publicly.

As night rolls around and floating lanterns are set to sea, the Apache in Mog Hill prepares to accept guests from the newer cohorts. It's something that happens every year, making it a practical tradition. The alcohol will be cheaper for first timers, and the music will be kept at a reasonable level.

"Hmm?" Tadhg blinks and glances up, a smile at the ready for the young man before him. "Well enough, thanks. I just drifted away for a bit." Worlds away, to be precise.

After shifting his mug to his left hand, he offers the right for a handshake. "Tadhg MacEibhir. I promise, I don't usually talk to thin air in public places." He raises his drink in a genial salute.

"Go a little slower on that," he says amiably. "Jae Kim." He shakes, easy, his grip firm and not trying to prove anything.

"Are you in our cohort? The new one."

Tadhg's smile widens a bit at Jae's advice. "Oh, never fear. My little quirks are never caused by alcohol."

When his hand grips the younger man's, his smile freezes for an instant as magic and other whisper their way across his senses. Tadhg has gotten somewhat used to running across more of the magically-inclined than he would back home, but his curiosity about them hasn't dimmed in the slightest. His gaze grows more intent; Jae suddenly has his complete attention.

"CeidaryBlue523? Yes, I am." Tadhg's affability doesn't alter, but he does watch for any signs of return recognition in Jae's face. "I arrived, oh, a bit over three months ago it is now. And you?"

That... is not actually comforting, if one were to be wholly honest; people being weird because they're drunk is one thing, people announcing that they're weird on their own is a little on the 'oh god, you aren't a serial killer, are you?' side of another. That response, in addition to the way Tadhg is now staring at him so intently, means Jae is immediately put on the defensive - though none of it shows. He's got too much of a history in media relations for that, even with alcohol in him.

"Not quite that long." He smiles. "Nice to meet you - maybe I'll see you around. Take care, man." He's been making his way around the room in brief bursts all evening, so it doesn't look weird; he does make a direct line outside towards Ilde, though, as if maybe she waived him over.

The lad's polite about it, no doubt, but Tadhg has witnessed too many similar sudden withdrawals in his long life not to recognize a strategic retreat when he sees one. He has apparently managed to put his foot in it yet again. Never mind, he can hardly blame anyone for erring on the side of caution here, no matter where they come from or how long ago they arrived.

"Have a good evening, Jae." The reply is mild and sincere. Abandoning his drink on a nearby table, he scans the crowd of revelers. Maybe he can find someone he already knows.
