my life is trapped in these lines, that's why i'm packing these nines

Who: Princess Nuala, Integra Hellsing, and everyone who's made an appointment for a job interview at Hellsing.
What: Job interviews.
Where: Hellsing Guild Hall, Sobek Croix.
When: Various times after this post.
Notes: If your character has an interview just start a new thread! You may get Integra, you may get Nuala, you may get both. If you have a preference, say so in your subject line or harass one of us, we are easy to find.
Warnings: Bureaucracy?

In the midst of rising tension in the city, Hellsing is busier than usual. New blood (ha, hah) is always welcome, but especially so these days. The guild hall is perhaps oddly quiet, though it's only because most agents are out on cases. Those with appointments will be seen promptly.

Jim listens carefully, nodding every so often to indicate he's still with her, still getting it. "So, if I understand correctly, Hellsing is the line of defense between the supernatural and the city's civilians. That's pretty comparable to what Starfleet does for the Federation's citizens--we explore, of course, but when needed we step up to stop threats. Diplomacy has its place and its uses, but in the heat of battle, we tend toward the one-warning rule ourselves."

He sits up a bit straighter. "Tell me what sort of leadership you're looking for in these crises, and tell me about your past difficulties in getting that response."

Jim nods. Being in command himself, he can understand the difficulty and disappointment in a subordinate not living up to what they agreed to do when signing on. Crisis situations are hard enough without someone going insubordinate under you; chain of command is there for a reason.

"Being in Starfleet, Sir Hellsing, I understand that 'civilians' does not equal 'humans'. The fact that here the 'civilians' include supernatural beings instead of beings who are alien to my home planet doesn't change that. What you've just described is a large part of what Starfleet does, as a peacekeeping and humanitarian force; when it becomes necessary we provide defense for those who would not otherwise be able to protect themselves against an outside threat. I can do what you will require of me, without difficulty."

He pauses, considering his words. "In a crisis situation, the good of the many, the safety of those who most need it--that's what comes first. An emergency or a battle is no time for ego games and arguing about who serves who and how. You do what needs to be done. I understand that by contracting with you I am placing myself under your command for these kinds of situations. You will have no argument or insubordination from me."

Jim is certainly proud--proud of Starfleet, proud of his place in it, proud of his service, short-lived though it is so far. He'd probably be more irritated at this explanation back home, but he does realize that he's new here, speaking to someone unfamiliar with him and with Starfleet, so he can be forgiving. That and it sounds like Integra had a hell of a time with the last guy in this job; he doesn't blame her for wanting to make damned sure that's a particular headache she won't have to repeat.

He smiles, pleased, at her declaration. "Thank you, Sir. What resources are available to me to help get me up to speed with the kinds of threats the Guild faces? I'd like to take advantage of the current calm to give myself a better grounding in the subject."

Paperwork! Jim sympathizes. He just learned all about paperwork.

"I'll have Martel give me some guidance, then," he agrees. "And I think some shadowing would be helpful to me. I think I can better understand the tactical decisions needed in a crisis if I have a better grasp of day-to-day operations.

It's... paperwork. On actual paper. Sure, the word is still used where he's from, but it's a holdover from older times. The so-called paperwork is electronic. This is... paperwork, properly on paper, and it kind of delights him a little.

He reaches for a pen, hoping his handwriting will pass muster.

He grins at Integra. "I think that's a good start, yeah. Thank you, Sir."
