my life is trapped in these lines, that's why i'm packing these nines

Who: Princess Nuala, Integra Hellsing, and everyone who's made an appointment for a job interview at Hellsing.
What: Job interviews.
Where: Hellsing Guild Hall, Sobek Croix.
When: Various times after this post.
Notes: If your character has an interview just start a new thread! You may get Integra, you may get Nuala, you may get both. If you have a preference, say so in your subject line or harass one of us, we are easy to find.
Warnings: Bureaucracy?

In the midst of rising tension in the city, Hellsing is busier than usual. New blood (ha, hah) is always welcome, but especially so these days. The guild hall is perhaps oddly quiet, though it's only because most agents are out on cases. Those with appointments will be seen promptly.

The wait is mercifully brief, considering Rodolphus' disdain for things like 'being comfortable'; one of Princess Nuala's aides is down promptly a few minutes later, looking only barely as though they'd been in a hurry, to escort him upstairs to her generously-appointed office. As with other interviews, the Princess herself is seated by the fireplace when he's shown in, a low table set up with her necessary papers and a seat opposite her that is more welcoming than speaking across her grand desk at the back of the room.

Rodolphus may be one of the few who come in here with the potential to recognize what King Balor's hand is, in its locked display case.

"Mr Lestrange," she greets him, without rising. "Please; sit."

His own greeting is limited to a polite incline of the head as he sits, back straight, and while the sweep of his gaze certainly took in the locked display case, no recognition registers on his face. He doesn't care to come to conclusions without a closer examination, and this is not the time. Perhaps a beat longer than someone naturally inclined to talk would have started, Rodolphus says, "Thank you for meeting me."

It's not that it sounds insincere, but it is decidedly perfunctory. He cannot guess Nuala's species, nor her preferences, just yet, but he can at least meet minimal conversational requirements.

Evidently, she finds it sufficient; her smile is small and polite, but not false. She's simply this way, more often than she isn't, pleasant-natured and patient and-

"I wished to speak with you personally," she says, consulting her notes only briefly, "due to my understanding of your situation. I am aware of your ... previous allegiances, and it will be important that we understand now whether or not this is going to cause you a problem in Hellsing's employ. Before I attend to the subject of how we would employ you, I would like to begin there."

After all, what's the use of someone who can't work with anyone else or who won't act in good faith to the frequently non-magical civilians who depend on this organization?

This is the first time anyone here has brought up the subject, and his surprise is only slight. He assumes this is Lucius' 'fault', in so far as one can assign blame in this case, still unaware of (and likely to remain so) anybody named Sebastian LeMat. But he doesn't for a moment consider the question unfair, impertinent, or irrelevant, even with what Bellatrix has shown him.

"I will follow the rules and orders of this organization, and no longer have any interest in pursuing the demands of the one I left behind." Rodolphus pauses, considering whether that is too sparse a promise. "This world is very different, and such views no longer have any application."

As answers go, it isn't a bad one. Nuala, at least, doesn't seem to find anything in it objectionable - she has more questions, but she's willing to consider this discussion off to a promising start.

"Quite true, Mr Lestrange. And we would expect this to remain true, in the event of former enemies within the city." She exhales, and considers the space between them for a moment, cautiously optimistic about his possibilities with them. "The nature of our work requires that we provide a clearly united front for the civilians of this city; their trust in us is essential."

She handles the political angle to keep them out of trouble with the other powers in the city, but they work so well as they do because of the grass-roots base that they've built through consistency and reliability.

After a moment, she inclines her hand. "If there is anything else you'd like to say, before we continue?"

The hesitation is distinct. He knows what it's like to be cursed by Bellatrix. Not only has he seen it many times, he nearly died once, himself, and that was an accident (or so she said, anyway). If this ever gets back to her...

"Should the situation change, for whatever reason, I will let you know." He says, completely neutral. It is only a matter of courtesy. It totally isn't a promise of passive-aggressive resistance should Voldemort show up and/or fully manifest and totally wreck his already minimal chances with Bellatrix. But it would also be very easy to disregard, coming as it is from a complete and disreputable stranger.

Nuala's gaze is momentarily a good deal more penetrating than it was when this interview began- then she begins to smile. Aside from her sometime-fondness for disreputable individuals, she does have certain advantages that not all employers can call upon and the slight, warm pressure of her attention is most noticeable when it recedes again, satisfied.

"Promptly," she says, mildly, in acceptance of both what he says and what he means. "Now- may I assume you're interested in joining our mage resources, or are we discussing something more in the vein of field work? Of course we'd not necessarily limit you to one or the other."
