About midday, a call goes out on the Hellsing filter from Dean, setting this thing up.

By mid-afternoon, with help, there are a couple of grills going, crabs on the boil, tables lined up in the grass behind the guild hall. There's meat, there's shellfish, there's vegetables and side dishes. There's even some wine and beer.

Hello, Hellsing. Come meet and greet your fellow operatives.

Wait, shouldn't you go herbal at times like these?

For anyone who has met him here or in Bete Noire, Lucius would not be someone who strikes one as good with children. It's deceptive, however, at least to some degree: he's not fond of all of them, but now that he's a parent, he's at least sympathetic to challenges.

So he approaches, not too close, but close enough to speak in a civil tone of voice. "Excuse me," he says to Sol, "but is there anything I can do to help the confusion?"

"I was going to open it with my teeth." ...This is a lie. Mabel shrugs her shoulders and grins.

"Nah, I was gonna get food. Trouble is figuring out what to eat first."

Boromir was at Hellsing HQ dealing with the usual bout of things a new job brings: contracts to sign, places to get shown around, so on and so forth.

(All of which is new to him since he's never had a job so much as a duty he was born into.)

Just as he was preparing to leave, he heard the gathering out back and went to see what was going on. He'd thrown his own share of feasts and celebrations for his men post-battle, so while he's not familiar with the term 'barbecue,' it certainly looks familiar.

It's quite possible someone might see him standing at the book door while he looks on for a moment.

"Come on, Liesl, c'mere-" Sol's in the process of getting back to his feet when Lucius joins them, Liesl on his hip and wailing into his shoulder at the general indignity of being expected to cope with inexplicable Englishmen. If he isn't her uncle, it's a bit rude of him to look so much like him, she thinks.

(They're just lucky that Martel isn't in attendance as well.)

The expression on his face as he glances back at Lucius over Liesl's head is a half-tired, half-exasperated look that the other man probably knows very well. He remembers this guy well enough from the last branch; mannerly, competent, mentally designated 'our wizard' in contrast to the ones Sol found more tiresome, and that's good enough. "Hey, here- hey, do we want to say hello to Mr Malfoy? I know it really sucks he's not your uncle, but how about- here, come on, how about we say hello and maybe you'll like him even though he's different. What about that?" He rocks her absently, swaying in place in an effort to get her to stop crying - if she calms down, maybe she'll cheer up, and she can enjoy the rest of the afternoon.

Liesl doesn't rest her head against his shoulder so much as she headbutts him with the side of her face, sticking her fingers in her mouth and giving Lucius a suspicious, watery-eyed glare.

"Did you just get here?" Shiori asks, peeking around Boromir. "So did I." She laughs lightly, moving to face Boromir properly and bowing slightly in greeting. "I'm Shiori. It's nice to meet you!"

Shiori, having just been hired, wanders into the barbecue apprehensively. Everything had changed so fast - too fast for her liking, and while she at least had a job now, it was about as far removed from being a librarian and barista as you could get. As different and scary as it was, though, social work had always been an interest of hers. Dealing with people who weren't children would be a new challenge.

After successfully obtaining some crab, Shiori finds a free table to sit at and begins eating. She looks around, still overwhelmed by what was happening to her. It wasn't just the change of vocation or location that got to her, but the presence of things other than human. Shiori was nothing if not polite, and she even found it comforting to not be the only not-normal person around, but this was a lot for her to handle at once.

Standing over six foot, he does tend to make a better wall than a window, and he moves out of the way to let the lady past. "I was passing through and wondered what was happening." And since it's also customary in Gondor, he matches her slight bow with one of his own, smiling. "Well met; my name is Boromir. I gather you're also affiliated with Hellsing?"

[identity profile] lily-schlaflied.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Shiori nods enthusiastically. "I was just hired! I'm Princess Nuala's administrative assistant. Are you a field agent?" She clasps her hands behind her back, head cocked to the side and eyebrows furrowed in concentration. There's still some cognitive dissonance going on with her new ability to understand other languages.

Shiori spies the dog from what seems like a million miles away and makes a beeline. Her smile is wide and genuine as she crouches in front of Velcro, holding a hand out for him to sniff. "May I? He's so cute!"

"I am, yes." For the record, Boromir's original language is Westron, which is getting translated into English. Coupled with being bi-lingual in Sindarin, his accent has the odd sing-song quality of Welsh or Finnish, but more Germanic sounding than the elves who speak it*. "Are you also a member of the new cohort?"

*...yes, thank you for that clusterfuck, Mr Tolkien.

[identity profile] lily-schlaflied.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes, I am. From what I gather, it's not the usual occurrence? Or is it?" Shiori shakes her head, laughing amicably. "Even with that pamphlet and everything else I've been told, I really have no idea what's going on!"

[identity profile] lily-schlaflied.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Shiori's head snaps to look at Dead when he speaks, surprised. Somehow, she hadn't seen him approach. After a moment of looking confused at his words, the concerned look on her face bursts into a brilliant smile. "Oh, yes, please! Sit down." She nods emphatically. "I'm Shiori Sakita. I'm Princess Nuala's assistant. Are you a field agent?"

Jack rocks on his feet, looking down at his coat with a shrug and a smile. "Thanks. It's an original," he says, with a tilt of his head, before he holds out his hand to shake Dean's, shifting his glass into his left hand.

"Captain Jack Harkness," he says, with one of his wide, matinee idol grins.

"Hello, miss," he says to Liesel. "I'm very sorry I'm not who you were expecting."

To Sol, he adds, "Mr. Koenig, isn't it? I don't know if we've met, what with timelines and all." He makes an illustrative gesture.

Liesl turns her face damply against Sol's shirt, hiccuping and unhappy but at least encouraged to stillness by Lucius's obliging her desire to see for herself. Sol rifles in a pocket for a handkerchief as he nods, "Yeah, we worked together on ley lines," he says, arching back slightly to get at Liesl's face and press the fabric square under her nose. "Blow," he instructs, with noisy results, then, "Are we saying hello, Liesl?"

"Hello," she says, finally, truculently; she's got her way, but it's not quite what she wishes it was. "Mr Malfoy." A pause, then, "Do you like dogs?"

"I do," he confirmed, "very much. I have several, or did back where I came from." He assumes the conversation with Sol about leylines can wait, though a small nod confirms it's as he remembers as well.
