Megan's housepartment (it looks like a house to her, but the realtor assured her it is an apartment, okay, whatever) is a quaint little thing in the middle of a friendly, middle class Howl Barrow street that is deceptively tame by day and comes alive by night. Her neighbours are super chill, which is her favourite part of living here -- she asked around about a party, if the noise would be a problem, and nobody had any problem with it. Howl Barrow rules.

The inside's a bit furnitureless right now -- she's got a few mismatched chairs and a pull-out sofa, that's about it -- but she's already started decorating a little, hanging art on the walls and putting up nice curtains. (Nobody is allowed to puke on her new curtains.) She's well-stocked with a wide selection of alcohol, ranging from mid-price beer to hard liquor, and snacks, nothing fancy.

She's got her bong out too, yeah.

By 7, there's already a couple people milling about and drinking -- coworkers from the Vault, mostly. Music's playing from an old suitcase turntable set up on the kitchen counter, it's something Baedal-native, hard rock, and in an alien language.

For the shy and/or drunken Snow Whites, there's a friendly, fluffy ragdoll cat lounging around, casually draping herself wherever is most convenient for attention and adulation. Caution: do not give cat beer.

Steph arrives about half past seven, dressed casually. She's taken to hiding a small amount of Bat-gadgets on her at all times, and tonight isn't any different, though she hopes she won't have to use them. She gets herself a beer that's more for appearances than actually drinking -- she'll be nursing it for at least an hour.

Then she starts mingling, wandering through the apartment and introducing herself to people. She's keeping an eye out to make sure no one gets into any trouble, but mostly she's here to have fun.

Megan's talking to someone by the front door, laughing, touching her neck, playing with her hair a lot -- there's some very aggressive flirting going on there -- when she spies someone out of the corner of her eye that she recognises from the Network but has not actually met in person. Rather than make a note of that for later, she immediately whirls away, belatedly excusing herself, to head over that way and descend upon Steph like a gigantic, friendly pink puppy. Megan tends to act on impulse, because she has a memory like a sieve, and she'd never get anything done otherwise. "Hi! We met over the Network, right?"

She is much shorter in person, but that's probably to be expected, given her general fairy aesthetic.

"Hi!" Steph grins at Megan, not at all put off by the enthuasiasm, "Yeah, we did, I'm Steph. I like your house." Megan is a lot more pink than she was on the network, but Steph's seen weirder.

True, it's a bit bare at the moment, but it's a good size, clean, and homely looking, which makes it nice. Steph had considered bringing some sort of housewarming gift, but decided against it because a) she dint know Megan very well, and b) she's trying to be careful with money.

"Thank you! Is it snooty if I say I like it too? It's not like I built it or anything, it's just, you know. It's a nice house. It's so cheap here, too, like, compared to New York, anyway, we'd all be living in closets or, like... a box on the street there." Her accent's a light Welsh and her voice is lower pitched than one would expect by looking at her -- it's got a kind of husky quality, like she's been smoking a lot. (She has, uh. Well, she's got another pipe upstairs she was hitting earlier.) "You're new, yeah? How're you settling in?"

"I think you're supposed to like your own house, so it's all good. And it's nice to hear it's cheap, I'm gonna start looking for a place once I save a bit and I'd rather not live in a box."

Steph is boringly normal compared to Megan, the only 'off' thing about her is how muscled she is, plus the few light scars on her face and hands. Her accent is American, but unrecognizable to someone not familiar with Gotham.

"I've been here a few days and already got myself a job, plus there's enough people here I know from back home, so I'm not too freaked out."

"Oh wow, that's so cool! It's good you got it down so fast, dang. What are you doin' then?" She is taking this question-asking thing as an opportunity to drink in between, since otherwise Megan just tends to kind of... go. Like someone pulled a string on her back and let 'er rip.

"Adaptable's my middle name." Its not, but hey, let's pretend, "I'm working at the library, which'll be boring, but easy."

Steph takes a few sips of her beer between talking, but the content of the bottle doesn't seem to be going down much, "I'm assuming you've got a job if you were able to buy a house?"

"Oh, cool! Is that the one at the school? I've --" A pause. "Heard of it?" Haha, reading. Pffft. She's been free of that since she quit high school.

"Yeah! I work at the Vault, have you been there?" Disclaimer: do not go to the Vault unless prepared to deal with debauchery.

"That's the one." Steph can guess what that pause means, and it makes her smile.

"I haven't heard of that, what sort of place is it?" Steph isn't much for the clubbing scene in general, let alone in a new place.

[gwynn]

"Uh." Her hesitation doesn't come from embarrassment -- she likes her job and isn't at all ashamed of what she does -- so much as a genuine floundering as to how to explain what the Vault is. It isn't quite a strip club, but calling it a sex club is a little misleading; it's not at all like anything she's known to use that description, in that people don't all necessarily have sex in the club. "Well, it's a club in Griss Twist. It's kind of like an old-timey burlesque club, soooort of? But modernish at the same time? Not everyone who works there dances and some people just come to, like, hang out, you know?"

If it sounds like a den of iniquity, then that's because it absolutely is.

Steph puzzles over that answer for a second, she's pretty sure she understands the type of club Megan is describing. Not that Steph has a huge range of experience with clubs, she's only ever been in costume, for business rather than pleasure.

"Burlesque dancers have always seemed so cool, it must be an interesting place. Do you dance, or are you a bartender?" There's no judgement in her tone, Steph isn't really bothered by what someone does as a job, as long as they're happy doing it, which Megan seems to be.

[gwynn]

"I dance!" She beams. "I danced back home too but it was way different, you know? It's all like, artsy and stuff here. I mean, I'm not very artsy but a lot of the other people there are. We have like, fire-dancers and stuff, it's way cool."

"Wow, that is artsy." Steph smiles too, glad that Megan seems to really enjoy her job, "I might have to come visit some time, what days do you work there?"

Social butterfly Vanadi here will make a beeline for Steph as soon as he spots her, which-- well, could take a while. He's pretty focused on chatting up hot people, and the mask doesn't afford great peripheral, okay. But at some point! At some point he'll be heading straight for her, two drinks in hand and a wide smile in place.

"Why, Stephanie! I haven't seen you in ages!" Ages, a couple days, it's all relative. "How have you been?"

Steph excuses herself from another conversation when she sees Vanadi coming over, because she's pretty sure she can't keep up a conversation with him and someone else. She's replaced her beer with one of those awful wine coolers, but she's barely touched it.

"Hello, Vanadi," She smiles, clearly amused, "I've been fine. Have you gotten yourself into any trouble yet?"

It's pretty obvious what she means by trouble.

"Not yet," he says, with a sigh and obvious regret. "Nor have I been punched lately. For all that I'm enjoying this place so far, it seems to have far fewer parties than is entirely proper."

"There's still time," she pats his shoulder in commiseration, "Do I even want to ask how many parties you'd consider 'proper'?"

[implying]

"Oh..." He sips thoughtfully at his drink, mask tipped like he's staring thoughtfully at the ceiling. "Two a day, at least? Four on a really busy day."

He holds the other drink out to Stephanie, seeming to have just remembered its presence. The best alcohol he could find, naturally. "Unless you're a large fan of what you have there, and from what's missing so far I would guess you aren't, allow me to highly recommend this instead."

Steph just blinks, not sure if he's joking, "How haven't you died of alcohol poisoning?"

"I'm not, but my mom taught me not to accept drinks I didn't see made." She feels guilty for having to turn it down, but even if Vanadi's been a good friend so far, she's not willing to completely trust him yet. She's also lying about her mom teaching her that; Steph learned it from attending parties back in high school.

[implying]

"Truly, a mystery." The bit of apparent motherly wisdom makes him smile though, and he nods, lifting his own glass in a tiny salute. "A wise woman, your mother."

He raises the glass he'd offered out to drink from it himself, tipping his head and looking pleased at the taste.

"There. If it's poisoned, we'll die together."

"I wasn't worried about poison," But she puts the wine cooler down and accepts the drink, taking a small sip and smiling, "Thank you. What's in it?"

It's not easy to tell with that mask, but he might look even more pleased to have it accepted.

"Quite a variety, actually! Pineapple vodka, strawberry schapps, cranberry juice, apple juice, a float of 151..." He flashes one more quick smile, and takes a deep drink of his own. Definitely a sweet and fruity drink, if there ever was one. "I'd advise drinking slowly."

Steph starts to roll her eyes, but gets distracted by raising a brow instead, that's a significant amount of alcohol for Steph, considering she doesn't drink normally.

"Are you trying to get me drunk, Vanadi?" It's said lightly, she's mostly teasing.

"It's a possibility that hasn't escaped my consideration," he says brightly, not an ounce of guilt in sight. She's had fair warning of what's in it, and a demonstration of him drinking it. As far as he's concerned, anything level of inebriation from here on out is entirely of her own violition.

"You're going to be disappointed. Are you sure you don't want to spend your time with someone easier?" There's no venom in it. She hides her smile behind taking another sip of the drink.
