With the last of the bad blood flushes from the system and a steady supply of new, clean cruor coming in, Réjean worked quickly to return Mafaton back to normal. With the heart of the crisis having passed, the Council returned to sleep leaving him free to run the city in his usual laissez faire manner. One of his prerogatives was to artificially reduce the rate of feeding by keeping a portion of the vampire population in torpor.

Should anyone wish to come talk to the man that passes for proxy of the Council of Princes, he can be found during his usual hours at the Stairway to Heaven.

Ever since their curious meeting in the river, Ilde persists in thinking of Réjean as a friend and her amiable fondness for him is evident in the manner of her arrival, settling herself on the edge of his table otherwise unannounced.

"Can I have a word?" she inquires.

"Always, p'tite. Please, sit. Can I get you anything?" Just because he often enjoys taking the piss out of those in power doesn't mean Réjean can't be genial.

"Shirley Temple," she requests, sliding down into another seat rather than remaining perched on the table, "with cherries."

Somehow, this is Remy's fault.

The bartender, able to overhear her order, nods and goes to work on the drink. He's a smart man and knows that when Réjean is polite his guest usually has a sense of humour. This is why Ilde's drink comes to the table garnished with a little umbrella and a silly straw in the shape of a flamingo.

"How's the river?"

When her drink arrives, the bartender gets a quick gleaming grin and the umbrella gets tucked behind her ear. (The straw is delightful.)

"Full of eelsharks." ...but they get along fine. She rolls one of the cherries between her fingers, considering Réjean for a moment as she weighs how she wants to go about her actual purpose for stopping by. "I wanted to ask you about something else- someone."

Réjean seems pleased with her response. After all, who doesn't like eelsharks? Boring people, that's who.

"Oh? Should I get out a notebook and a very expensive pen?" If he has anything other than a golf pencil on him, it would be something close to a miracle. Patting his pockets for a moment, he turns to her and making the most piteous puppy-face, continues with what must be the truth: "Or are you looking for a Mr Lonely Hearts?"

"I've already got that one by a string," she says, airily dismissive- at some point she's going to tell Ivan about the mark of her blood. Maybe. "I was wondering what you make of Deacon Frost. Gutters."

It's a perfectly innocent inquiry, having quite obviously nothing to do with anything he may or may not have heard about a fairy walking in and out of that club curiously unmolested. (Sure.)

Réjean settles back in his seat, not quite smug, but still confident. "He's a prick and the club is a disaster waiting to happen, but so long as he doesn't bring down the rest of the heat, it's not my business."

In some ways, Gutters is a good and needed thing. It gives the showier vampires a place to blow off steam that doesn't involve slaughtering a busload of nuns.

"He is a prick," she murmurs an agreement, thoughtful; she hadn't much minded, but it's not as if she didn't notice. Deacon Frost's...himself-ness is pretty hard to miss, especially if you're paying such close attention as she did. "It's nice to have an idea which direction someone like that is going to go off in," after a moment, almost vaguely, signing, «They always do,» as much to see if Réjean understands as to 'think out loud' and get a bit of practise in.

Réjean doesn't understand sign, but he's relatively adept at understanding human(ish) body language and nods in agreement. "You're a strapping young woman, but I don't think either of us can throw him far enough to trust him, hein?"

Sooner or later, Frost is going to make a mistake or be a necessary sacrifice and scapegoat, then he'll end up on a stake.

"I don't have the upper body strength for that," she says, very seriously, popping a cherry into her mouth. "Gutters is interesting, though." Frost is interesting, too, in a potentially useful kind of a way that's driving her inquiries here.
