A Rally in Support of the Hungry Few

Who: The City
What: A Rally in Support of Cruorvores.
Where: Mercer's Square, Aspic
When: AT A CLEVER TIME
Notes: Everyone is welcome, including curious neutrals. NPCs available on request. OOC post.
Warnings: A general spirit of solidarity may be present.

Word has been spreading over the network and on the street. Leaflets have been available at open minded public houses and restaurants. A few of the city's more prominent inhabitants have organized a rally to show support for cruorvore citizens. It is going to be a public event; sanctioned, the leaflet assures, by the state. Speeches will be made, the true colours of the city will be shown. There is a lot of talk about standing up to the sowers of discord.

As the evening of the rally approaches, more and more people gather in the square. All sorts have come out for the event, xenians, humans and people who defy categorization mingle peacefully. A cat watches the proceedings from on top the stage has been erected to one end. The stage has been draped in banners promoting tolerance and acceptance, and small sign near the bottom proclaims it was built with the kind donations from Bloody Sunday, The Zygoda, Howl's Market and certain private citizens, of which there is a list. Some attendees have brought instruments and casually strike up a tune every now and then. Others have brought food, signs or torches as the rally promises to continue well into the night.

I like words. @_@

She laughs at his frankness - a short, sharp bark that shows off her teeth - and relaxes a touch. "It's good to meet you, Erik, and I can deal with a tourist here."

It's when they come into Mafaton looking for cheap thrills that she gets grouchy. (Some might even say cranky or crotchety.)

"D'you have a card?"

Thankfully, he is not the sort to march around, gazing upon all and sundry as though this is some kind of exhibition. However, it has been a good opportunity to note which xenians seem more politically minded.

In any case, he seems to like the way she laughs.

"No, don't carry one... I've yet to meet any construction men who do, actually." Marvel at his thrilling day job, ye mortals.

There are a few idiots out on 'safari' in the crowd and they stand out well enough to be easily avoided by anyone with good sense.

"Is there good work in that here?" With the way that the city was recently knocked about by the ants, she's pretty sure that it's a good job and a comfortable topic.

"Steady work," he concedes. "It wasn't hard to find a placement before the end of that meagre grace period they give you. There's plenty to be built and rebuilt out there." It's not exactly his life's ambition to sling bolts around, but he can do it—and at some point he will man a crane all by himself, hands-free. This he's decided.

"Have you had much business, yourself?"

[identity profile] aldabeyoun.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
"More than I'd expected." She sounds conflicted by it. On the one hand, it's good to have so much work, to get her name out among the populace; but on the other, it's been a lot of healing holy water burns.

"It's not on the card, but I specialize in working with the undead."
magnetic: (trying to figure this out somehow)

[personal profile] magnetic 2011-09-19 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Ahhh." The sort of slow nod you're probably imagining here, yes, he does that. "Well, then it's a fine time to make the rounds, isn't it... shame about the circumstances, though."

[identity profile] aldabeyoun.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"So it is." Njoki chuffs and looks out over the crowd. The rally is starting to pick up and draw in an increasingly large number of people which means that she'd rather head back out and skirt the edges of the square.

"What do you think about this?" The rally? Concerned Citizens? Who knows?
magnetic: (on a mission of sorts)

Erik, on the other hand, seems quite at ease even as the crowd continues to grow. If something's going to happen, he's more than capable of holding his own, and knows it—and wouldn't mind other people knowing it, either.

"I find it appalling that such a demonstration is necessary," he says, needing no time to consider an answer, and turning his gaze upon the crowd just as Ki has done. "But at the same time, it's gratifying to see some public defiance."

[identity profile] aldabeyoun.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Once the sun goes down, I wonder how many actual cruorvores'll show. I mean, there's a few daywalking types here now, but they're well hidden and can blend in." Even so, that's more than she'd expected to see out. "And, yeah, it's good to see, and better to know that the militia here are allowing it."
magnetic: (not exactly enthused)

[personal profile] magnetic 2011-09-19 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"For now." Doesn't he sound upbeat. The moment of extra seriousness passes, though, and he takes to looking curious instead. "How can you pick out the daywalkers?"

[identity profile] aldabeyoun.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Practice," she says simply before going into a little more detail. "It's a bit like going to a foreign country and being able to spot someone from your own town. How do you explain that you can tell by the way they nod their head, their gestures, that they tie their shoes the same way you learned to, that you know they must be from your village, even if you've never met."

While it does explain how she's able to do it, Njoki doesn't offer much in the way of details.
magnetic: (thoughts on a staircase)

"Mm, that makes sense. I must admit, before coming here I had never even thought to consider the undead in terms of an independent culture. The stories back home don't exactly paint them in a sympathetic light." Not that he's an expert on vampire literature, or anything.

[identity profile] aldabeyoun.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"And how many of those stories are written by cruorvores?" Njoki shrugs before looking through the crowd, focusing her attention on someone and then shaking it off to return back to the conversation at hand. "It's like that with any subculture. Unless you're on the inside, you're missing half the dialogue, eh?"
magnetic: (somewhat like a painting)

[personal profile] magnetic 2011-09-19 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Very true. That lack of understanding is the cause of a great many issues, isn't it?" There does still linger the sense that he's not necessarily discussing this subject as a stranger to prejudice, but he is, at least, speaking with less gravity. "It's a good opportunity, this. Growing one's knowledge of a people beyond popular folk tales."

And it's a bit humbling too, in a way, but he is proud to be more open-minded than most when it comes to monsters.

[identity profile] aldabeyoun.livejournal.com 2011-09-19 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've been told that there are even vampire melons somewhere in the city." While it's possibly Ki is joking, it's just as likely that she's telling the truth and finds it funny. "I should head back. Once the sun's down, I'll have more to do."

(Fact: Hellsing does have a pet vampire melon. Sebastian named it Hagrid.)
magnetic: (more or less agreeable)

[personal profile] magnetic 2011-09-20 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
"No doubt," he says, most good-naturedly, offering one of his long hands for another shake. "It's been a pleasure, Ki. Stay safe out there."

[identity profile] aldabeyoun.livejournal.com 2011-09-20 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
"You too, Erik." Njoki shakes his hand again before heading off through the crowd and toward Mafaton. She'll stop a few times along the way and check up on people she recognizes and Erik will likely be able to hear her whooping cackle of a laugh at few more times.
