Who: Everyone.
What: The Grand Re-Opening of the Gravity Falls Station.
Where: Babylon.
When: Veerdi to Sukkardi.
Notes: Party post!!! Go nuts y'all.
Warnings: Probable alcohol (and drug?) use. Flag stuff in subject titles if it needs a warning and I'll edit it up in here.
It's clear from the first moment anyone even gets on the Skyrail tonight that the Stratosphere Entertainment Group's pricey investment is going to pay off - every rail car is crowded with people decked out and excited for the event. To natives of Baedal, the idea of a holiday is days off work, maybe some camping - escape is alien, a little frightening, and completely thrilling. Even when the Gravity Falls station had hosted other venues, it was nothing so ambitious as to capture the imaginations of the city as a whole. And to immigrants to the city who no longer have the luxury of even simple trips out of town - well, it's priceless. A bittersweet but suddenly vital excursion.
Doors open just as the sun begins to set, the light reflecting off the water of the ocean illuminating the great floating platform as if the entire sky was on fire, before slipping into deep purple then black, the ceiling of their experience dotted with brilliant stars. Staff members wrangling the hazards of the first night are anxious but excited, kind and helpful even if they end up frazzled by the overwhelming turnout. There is security, all sporting neon purple shirts with lion logos, but even by their own admission, they're only there to breakup fights - and even they're smiling all night, too.

That's the funny thing about Virginia. Even the parts of Virginia, like where Ava grew up, that are so far north you can lay eyes on Washington DC? Lots of families there still think of themselves as living in the South, and they raise their daughters accordingly.
The bartenders are momentarily occupied with other patrons, so Ava turns to Jae as they wait. "The people you work with are very nice," she says. "You do a radio show as well as live sets?"

"Yeah, five nights a week, ten to midnight. I work overnight, all my club shifts are after." The bar tender zooms by but Jae snags his attention, and gets himself something called the Mos Eisley Cantina - he will recommend that to Ava if she wants a suggestion, or something else called Falcon Punch.

"It's nice that the schedule works out for you that way," she observes. "And that you've been able to find something that works with your talents. How long have you been a DJ?"

He raises his glass when they get their cocktails. Cheers!

"Right now I manage a boarding house in Aspic, near the marketplace."
It's probably the sort of job she really has no business doing, but she means well and she does try.
"But that's because my real calling doesn't pay the bills. I try to help people, save them from terrible fates when I can. I suppose it would be weird to charge money for that."

She's very grateful for his legitimate interest; in her own culture this disclosure is usually met with a fair amount of side-eying.

"We've totally got to talk about it when we don't have to scream at each other to hear," he laughs. "Can I give you my number? I've gotta keep making the rounds here in a minute." And also find Sunny before someone thinks he's been kidnapped. Again.

She gets out her CiD and takes Jae's contact information, sharing hers as well. "I'd love to meet up sometime. Why don't you let me know when? You work different hours between different places, and my schedule is a lot more regular, so let's work around yours.

She offers him a hand to shake. "Call me sometime when you're free. We'll definitely meet up again." She's not trying to get rid of him, by any means, but it's clear it's a busy night for him.
