Ava introduces herself, shaking hands and making small talk graciously with everyone. Eventually they reach the bar, and behold, a pair of seats have just opened up. She waves for him to take one as she carefully perches on the other, back straight, legs crossed.

That's the funny thing about Virginia. Even the parts of Virginia, like where Ava grew up, that are so far north you can lay eyes on Washington DC? Lots of families there still think of themselves as living in the South, and they raise their daughters accordingly.
