a scavenger hunt

Who: Rex and Open
What: Scavenging from Sentinel husks
Where: Howl Barrow
When: After the sky is closed up
Notes: I'm a bit behind on tags atm, so expect slowness. Also, for reference as to how his voice sounds in that helmet, enjoy an amazing clip.
Warnings: Violence if any monsters pop up; otherwise, none.

Back home, Rex would have stood out in his mask and helmet. Aside from the functional origins of his outfit, it was designed to stand out, look impressive. Or as impressive as he could, considering his limitations.

In Baedal, however, an outfit like this doesn't stand out. If anything, it makes him look more xenian than "terrorist mastermind," which is precisely what he's going for at the moment. After all, it wouldn't be particularly intelligent to go around acting like a supervillain in public. No, the reason why Rex is currently dressed up in his old "Commander" uniform is simply this: he wants the extra protection in case any more monsters are still lurking about. (If they are, they're quiet.)

The long military-style coat, the light armor covering his chest, and the mask-helmet combo (which doesn't look ridiculous, as far as he's concerned. It's not ridiculous at all), all of these serve to blunt any blows that might strike him. He's not taking any chances right now, not when he doesn't quite know what dangers still lurk in the city.

And neither is he going to miss the opportunity to score some tech off the fallen robots. As soon as he'd heard about "giant robots" from Odessa, he knew he had to get a look at them. Unfortunately, the whole... "being chased to a safe house by mutant frogs" thing set him back. But now, with scores of murlocs dead and the sky sealed up, Rex is feeling brave enough to venture out. And, after following the rumor mill, he finds the remains of his prize, battered and headless, in Howl Barrow, lying among the rubble of what was once a small gallery. A husk of scientific progress surrounded by tattered paintings.

Rex sets to work immediately, starting with the machine's severed arm. It's the easiest place to begin. He's going after wires, scraps of metal, weapons components, all while keeping an eye out for processor chips (if there are any outside of the head, at any rate, which he doubts) and fuel sources. He studies as he dissects, not particularly interested in the machine's original purpose so much as he is interested in how to make a giant robot for himself, for his own uses.

He wishes he could have seen this thing in action. The craftsmanship is nothing short of remarkable. He imagines it must have been beautiful, perfect, before it was destroyed.
