There are better moments. They come and go, of course, but at one point Hasibe is 'there' enough that she can tip her head back just slightly and watch Ilde through the doorway when she passes by the room Hasi is in. She understands too many things right now, including why it is better for Ilde to be here, and she won't discourage the notion she needs looking after in her current state, even if it's not really true. It's important for everyone to feel like they're doing something right now. It waylays anxiety, and anxiety is worse than fear.

"Come here for a moment," she says, and she almost sounds like herself, except for that gilded edge to her voice, like you could hear her even if her lips weren't moving.
