Severus didn't have the words to describe it. It had simply felt wrong. There had been an inherent wrongness. It had hurt.

"I don't know what this could mean." He set the glass on the counter, the action slow and deliberate. "But I believe we would do well to be on our guard. There is no one I can contact to address the situation."

Even that, however, gave him pause. Narcissa had defied the Dark Lord - twice. Perhaps - just perhaps - she could be useful. Perhaps, if he kept his identities separate, she needn't ever know about Martha, and he could keep an ear to the ground...

"I have an idea."
