It might appear to the casual observer that Evan is networking like a pro, but in fact that is the latent function of what he's actually doing, which is flirting up a storm. To say he isn't serious about any of it is something of an understatement (and when is he serious about anything, anyway); he arrived here yesterday and has no intention of trying to go home with anybody. He's just enjoying himself.
To that end, he notices Ilde quite a while before he tries approaching her. First he finishes his conversation with someone dressed minimally but elegantly in bright feathers, then moves on to someone wearing armor so decorative it's unlikely to hold up to a butter knife. When that seems to be panning out, he withdraws, theatrically glances around as if now tired of such lively interaction, and with transparently calculated charm, sits himself easily and neatly as you please on Ilde's couch.
