A Rally in Support of the Hungry Few

Who: The City
What: A Rally in Support of Cruorvores.
Where: Mercer's Square, Aspic
When: AT A CLEVER TIME
Notes: Everyone is welcome, including curious neutrals. NPCs available on request. OOC post.
Warnings: A general spirit of solidarity may be present.

Word has been spreading over the network and on the street. Leaflets have been available at open minded public houses and restaurants. A few of the city's more prominent inhabitants have organized a rally to show support for cruorvore citizens. It is going to be a public event; sanctioned, the leaflet assures, by the state. Speeches will be made, the true colours of the city will be shown. There is a lot of talk about standing up to the sowers of discord.

As the evening of the rally approaches, more and more people gather in the square. All sorts have come out for the event, xenians, humans and people who defy categorization mingle peacefully. A cat watches the proceedings from on top the stage has been erected to one end. The stage has been draped in banners promoting tolerance and acceptance, and small sign near the bottom proclaims it was built with the kind donations from Bloody Sunday, The Zygoda, Howl's Market and certain private citizens, of which there is a list. Some attendees have brought instruments and casually strike up a tune every now and then. Others have brought food, signs or torches as the rally promises to continue well into the night.

"I'm from Florence." Italy, not Faerie; she's never been, either, though Ælfræd has watched her from there since she was a child, just like the rest of his descendants. Interesting family she's got, for all that she doesn't know a one of them.

Though her attention is in and out, and she seems (for now, at least) more tolerant of his company than interested in it, she does look directly at him whenever he speaks. It's mostly because otherwise she doesn't hear him in the slowly rising white-noise of the crowd, but it does at least ensure she's engaged. A bit.

"What do wizards think of vampires?" she asks, after a moment.

Tolerant is, by a long shot, more than Xenophilius gets outside of his own circle of immediate relatives, coworkers, and the affection of the Weasleys on the other side of the hill. If he is at all attentive to these cues, anyway.

"Well, I think if they were to run for public office, it's only decent that they let the public know," he says, pleasantly enough. "If only for the sake of their own kind, you understand. Our last Minister-- or the one prior, I don't know, hard to keep track, a bit, in the War-- was a vampire, but they covered it over and were none too pleased that my magazine kept asking about it. But what it might have done for the rights of non-humans."

He gestures loosely about with his notepad. "And here, they can't even eat without demonstrating about it. It's all a little unfair. A bit of a worry."

As slightly unexpected answers go, that one is sort of interesting and Ilde examines him for a few moments after he delivers it, placid and inscrutable.

"All right," she says, absently, like he's passed some sort of test and she's decided he can go on existing with her approval.

"Others have different opinions, of course."

Because Xenophilius would not profess to be the voice of wizardkind -- he is, at least, that self-aware. Just a small minority of them. His smile is benign, before it occurs to him-- and his eyes flash at the sudden interest the potential answer-- to ask; "And what do the fae think of the vampiric?"

Ilde shrugs at the question, adjusting her cello against her and letting her gaze wander as she answers, "They are what they are. A little overrated, in some cases."

The fae in general have a vastly different approach to vampirism than do humans; Ilde, in particular, is always secure in the knowledge that they'll profoundly regret it if they try anything with her. She has friends among them, and finds the New York vampires back home sort of sad and amusing. Her views more specifically would take too long to untangle here, and she's not interested in doing it - it's enough that she's here.
