At the very least, it should help convince McCoy that magic is very real and while his technology might not be able t measure it, it must be quantifiable in some way. Perhaps he'll be able to set his tricorder to scan for a specific sort of crazy-pattern and that way he'll know a patient has been magically afflicted?
