"I would never ask a lady to sit on the floor," Mina said, with just the slightest touch of her usual irony. She gestured to the bed. Jones could sit. Mina was probably more likely to pace anyway.
She turned to the door, briefly considering whether or not to close it. Probably best not to spook a mage, so she ended up closing only halfway, leaving several inches open. Perhaps that would put Jones at ease. Anyway, if she heard anyone walking, she could stop talking. People were loud. She had good ears.
"Anna is sharing quarters with me now," she said lightly. "I gave her the bed. I wouldn't be much of a gentleman if I didn't." She attempted a laugh, but it was clearly half-assed. She stopped. "Our room has a sofa. I'm sure you could acquire one, if you asked."
