Jim watches, hopeful that Tadhg will be able to help the girl, help all of them in time. He wants something, anything, to snap these children out whatever's been done to them. They're kids, for God's sake; they should be active, loud, playing, full of energy and life, not empty obedient husks.

But time passes, longer than Jim thinks it should take for Tadhg (in his admittedly ill-informed view of such things) to have gotten some sort of result or even information. "You got anything?" he asks.

Silence.

Jim frowns, and he kneels, setting down the little girl he was holding with a few murmured words of reassurance. She sits, her back to the wall, as dead-eyed as the rest.

"Hey." He peers at Tadhg, trying to figure out what's going on, and if he should worry. He doesn't know if breaking off the contact between him and the girl suddenly would be a bad thing. The other man's eyes open, and Jim's ready for a response, but...

Silence. Still.

Tadhg shudders, and Jim follows his gut rather than err on the side of not interfering. "Tadhg," he says, and when that gets no response he lurches forward, hands going to his friend's shoulders, pushing him away from the girl, breaking off his hold. "Hey. Hey. Are you okay?"
