Humans in the river is unusual enough to merit notice, generally - most river-dwellers discourage it, partly because the Gross Tar is not safe for them and partly because what can be found in the deepest parts is none of their business and it wouldn't do for them to get too curious into the few areas entirely untouched by their hands - and Ilde tends to pay attention when fights lead to it, too, just because she's nosy and sometimes-helpful.
One of them actually swimming in the river is stranger, especially with a breathing device like that. She doesn't seem as though she needs help, so Ilde doesn't offer it, but she's curious as to what happens next. (And whether or not she should be concerned about this girl in her place-- they shouldn't get the idea, up there, that they're allowed.)
After a short while, Steph may realize she's no longer swimming alone; Ilde is about a foot underneath, swimming on her back so she can watch her, curious. Hello, human.
