Shrieky frowns automatically when he sees Jae begin to write, but he doesn't actually come out and voice his concerns. If it's just one or two words he can probably piece together what it says later.

The frown deepens a little more at the question, because Jae had already said his name, and Shrieky had rather been hoping to evade having to ever respond in kind.

"Mermaid." He mumbled it a little, because maybe if Jae didn't hear it quite right he'd feel too embarrassed to try and say it, or to bring it up again.
