asimovsdream: calculating angles and wondering why (glancing)

Data is currently taking advantage of his first bit of time off from his day job at the ExproAuth. He doesn't technically need a break (time spent checking on Spot aside), but the fact that he's been working constantly since shortly after he arrived means that he's not gotten much of a chance to explore the city. The swap meet in Mog Hill (which he attended during the wait between his day job and his night job) had been interesting, though it had limited him to one location; his travels today have featured more variety.

Chnum, for example, has proven to be as singular a canton as was advertised. Having spent much of the morning there investigating the marketplace, Data now makes his way toward Mog Hill on foot, intending to seek out the temple there. Religion, he has found, is a curious thing (for "gods" are simply other living beings)—but curiosity invites closer examination, and so: his errand.

Before he can reach his intended canton, however, he sees a face he recognizes from the Network. The man had seemed somewhat uneasy with Data when they'd first spoken, but it's generally seen as rude to ignore someone you know upon passing them.

"Vakarian, correct?" he asks once they're close enough to converse. Data knows this is what Commander Shepard had said on the Network—his recall is flawless—but he is unsure whether this Vakarian is a given name or a family name, or if he appreciates people other than Commander Shepard addressing him that way.
