If Kate did have a say in the matter, they would have lived well under their means and spent more time giving their extras to those who didn't have any to begin with. But her father didn't really care for Kate's opinions, then or now, and she just accepted what was given to her in that household until she was old enough to refuse certain amenities of the rich.
