The face that slips from her memory should be a clue that something isn't right here, but she doesn't question it, both in the way that one doesn't question the strange things found in dreams, and just because she's got more to worry about. Like the injured, unconscious girl. Steph needs to get her somewhere safe to get a better look at the injuries, and to work out how she fell unconscious in the first place.

She'd been considering the best way to move the girl when the noise starts. She cries out at the pain of it, but she forces down the instinctual reaction to cover her ears, knowing it's not safe. She doesn't have the privilege of protecting her ears from the sound, so she simply grits her teeth and bears it. When she looks back up at the machine it's leg is already lifted, ready to strike and she has a brief second to make a decision. There might not be enough time to move both herself and the woman out of the way.

The tire iron is still in her hand, and while she doesn't have time to take a swing, she can drive it into the underside of the machine, putting all of her weight behind it. At best she hopes to knock the machine off balance, at worst it might decide to leave the girl alone in favor of getting Steph.
