It's not just water in Jae's lungs but a miasma of metaphysical ectoplasm, blood, and dirt, but when he coughs it's strong, the will to survive much stronger than any exhaustion or pain he's in. A moment of total panic surges through him as consciousness returns and he clings to Sunny, desperate, hindering - before the disorienting feeling ebbs enough for him to realize what he's doing and lets go, allowing Sunny to keep a hold of him but not doing anything to make matters worse.

His chest hurts more than he could even put into words, and he looks at the other man, bleary from pain and the water in his eyes, gasping in air, winded, not quite able to speak just yet. He tries and he just coughs more, and then he does grab at Sunny again, terrified and acting on impulse from how much it hurts.

But he's breathing and alive. And that's certainly not lost on him.
